Do not use any petroleum based lubricants or cleaners on your airguns. This includes nearly all "gun oils" and solvents. The best thing to use is a silicone product (non-aerosol), particularly food-grade silicone.

You can in some cases use non-detergent motor oil on multi-pump pneumatics. I find the practice odd myself, and would just use silicone oil.

Oh yes, and the one time shouldn't ruin anything. Just avoid doing so again.

Same here. Back when i was a kid, which is longer than probably a lot here have been alive by 2 or 3 fold, Mr. Green i had benjamin and sheridan rifles and several other airguns all of which i oiled the heck out of with gun oil. Granted, i never oiled seals or anything like that. But i always oiled the gun to keep corrosion off and kept the barrel lightly oiled. Never had a problem with any of them. Now if you are talking seals, then thats probably a different story, but the OP never mentioned what he was wanting to oil.

The only reason to avoid petroleum products is because of the seals, otherwise I do use regular gun oils to wipe down and protect my toys.

Just need to know what you're doing.
