I need a new pellet gun to take care of rats. My old one is a daisy powerline 800 that was accurate while I was a kid the barrel has since busted causing every shot to go down and to the right way to far.
Im looking for something that I can just get a few rounds off fast without pumping IE something Co2 and prefearbly something that has a clip of some sort. Im shooting in a backyard so I can only use pellet guns. I tried BBs and those just dont work well enough.
edit - i suppose i should say that most of my shots will be from at a distance of 15-20 feet so a scope isnt needed but if i could get a gun and possibly a scope I might be able to hit something from 50-60 feet away. |

| Welcome litch to AGH from Pflugerville, Texas. It would help if you gave your preference as to rifle or pistol and your preferred cal. In a rifle the Crosman 1077 comes to mind and in a pistol the Crosman 3576 revolver seems like it would fill your requirements, if you are looking for .177 cal. However you should keep in mind that for killing humanly a .22 cal provides more energy at the target. |

my friend has the crosman 1077 and I fired off a few rounds. Its pretty good and acurate. I would preffer a rifle over a pistol since most pistols ive seen either dont pack a big enough punch or are inacurate or just cost more then a rifle.
we would love to use 22s to ensure that the rats dont suffer but we are inside the city so that wouldnt be a good idea. Your not the first person to recomend the 1077 so I might go with that if theres no other suggestions.
Also, thank you for the welcome from texas |

I'm not sure I understand why a .22 cal airgun wouldn't be good in the city if it is legal to fire an airgun in your city then I can't imagine it would make a difference if it was a .177 cal or a .22 cal airgun. |

Welcome to airgunhome!
You didn't say what your budget is. There is a great option in the Maurader, in .22 cal. The rifle alone is in the upper $400's to low $500's depedning on where you order it from. And if you don't want to break your back trying to use a pump to fill it with, you'd need a scuba tank and tank to gun adapter. On the plus side of this, since the barrel is shrouded, it's very quiet. A big plus in the city. And it's also multi shot as well.
If that's out of the budget, the next best suggestion I'd give would be a Benjamin Discovery. Unlike the marauder, they are often packaged with a pump to fill them with. But that can become tedious over time so again it's recommended to set up a scuba fill station. While the discovery is half the price of a maruader it's only single shot and rather loud.
If you search the fourms here there are ways to tone it down and also a guy that makes a indexing "revolver" style multi-shot acessory that will fit the discovery.
If that still out of budget, I'd next suggest either a 2250xt or a 2260. Word of caution though, I live in the city too, and I've shot my 2300 in my back yard, the whole 22xx series can be rather loud with all the hard scapes around. You can get a muzzle break from TKO that will help tone any of the 22xx or discovery rifles.

a crosman 2260. they run about 550 fps with a 14.3 .22 pellet.
good out to 25 yards if you do your part. inexpensive as well. |

sorry most of the time I think of a .22 my friends hunting rifle comes to mind and not a .22 air gun.

unfortunatly all of those options would break my bank and the noise would be a problem but other wise they do sound like good guns

i like the looks of both but they are single shot which is kind of a turn off for me. Im not that accurate yet but that could be in part to my old gun that had the split in the outer barel. |

Hey Litch, single shot is as accurate as you're gonna get. Multishot rifles tend to throw ones accuracy off. Compensating with a lot of quick follow ups doesn't outweigh one or maybe two good shots.
On the sound issue I can only tell you that unless you put a towl around a springer, the next best thing would be a Marauder and I don't think that's in your price range.
Most powerfull springer are quite noizy too but the sound doesn't seem to carry as far. And you can tune a springer if it's to much noise |

Since it seems budget is of a concern, I'd have to agree with BBgun. Price wise they're not much more then a 1077. And having a 1077 myself, I would not recommend it for killing rats with.
Reason's why. The 1077 is more of a toy then something ment to kill pests or such. They're pumped out as fast as factory can make them. Unless you want to get into doing some work on it. I really don't recommend them.
You can get a 2240 pistol for around the same price as a 1077 and have a much better quality airgun. But you've stated you prefer a rifle. So that leaves the 2260. It might be a few dollars more then the 1077, but you'll like it alot more too.
If you can set up an indoor range in either the basement or your garage, and practice! practice! practice! You won't need a multishot ag to nail them rats with. Just make sure you set up a good back stop so you're pellets don't damage anything while your practicing.
One last word... You admited to living in a city. Check with local regulations! Depending on city, county and state, you may or may not be allowed to have an ag at all. Example, I've in the suburbs of Chicago. Most places won't ship to based on where you live. Chicago has a ban on all ag's For the rest of the state of illinios if an ag fires faster then 700fps or has a caliber greater then .177, you MUST have a fire arms card in order buy or own one. Get caught violating these laws can mean stiff fines and perhaps even some jail time depending on how strict your city, county, or state is. |

| Do yourself a cheap favor and get a Crosman Quest. Accurate as all get out and with a 7.4 grain pellet mine does 951 fps average. Light weight and easy to cock, pretty forgiving on the hold sensitivity too |

| Head on over to Wal-Mart and get a Crosman Titan. Might not be as quiet as a shrouded NPSS but should do the job and not break the bank. About $150 |
