I just cleaned up my pile of pellet tins and thought I'd count them.... Since I retired in the fall of 2007 I have gone through (at least):

52 tins @ 200, plus 3 tins of 500 in .22 cal = ~12,000 pellets
20 tins @ 500 of .177 cal = ~10,000 pellets

That doesn't include the myriad of partly used tins I have on the shelf.... including a bunch of part tins of .25 cal.... so I'm guessing at least 25-26,000 pellets in 2.5 years.... That works out to roughly 200 per week.... Shocked

Having just rediscovered the joys of airgunning since the beginning of this year, and not having that many good days to shoot (rain, wind, too hot, too cold, honey do's, other stuff) I've gone thru maybe 1,500 .177 pellets.

With all that shooting, Bob, how long can you go before you have to clean for accuracy?

I've found .22 to have a steeper drop off when it comes to fouling and accuracy issues over .177. Generally, I can go 2500 to 3000 pellets in .22 before groups start opening up, and 3500 to 4000 pellets in .177- before I even look at a cleaning rod...

To stay on topic- it depends on what I'm doing. I can easily go through a 500 tin, just shooting chrony strings. Scope and pellet testing can eat up 250 to 300 pellets in a session. A session at the gravel pit will see even more pellet use- there seems to be a lot to plink at out there. I can easily spend the whole day from dawn to dusk doing that- just relaxing and plinking. Oddly enough, shot count drops way down during hunting season. Some hunting days, I'm lucky if I shoot 5 or 6 pellets- just to clear the gun...

It varies wildly. I've been know to go through 500 rounds in a week, and then go up to a month before I shoot again. Weather, honey-do's, health, lately getting ready for fire season, all affect how much shooting I do. As soon as I get a safe area inside set up weather won't affect things so much.

Bear in mind, Doc, that is spread out over a dozen or so guns.... so I doubt if I more than a couple thousand through any one gun.... I've never noticed any change in accuracy so far on anything I own....

I know what you mean about hunting season.... I got my limit twice last year on Grouse and only fired 12 shots one day and 13 the other.... never even had to refill my PCP Carbine....

Having a range in my front yard, and a range in my back yard, and being retired, with only a GF, and she is NOT qualified to issue out "honey-do" lists,( Cool

) and a 10 meter range inside my house... I go through about 300-400 a week..some days, I just lay back in a lawn chair and try to shoot pine cones out of the tree tops...gotta love it Mr. Green

I know someone who not long ago, according to his "scorebook", shot over 15,000 rounds in one year. I believe it, as this drooling gun-nut's house virtually bristles with barrels !

As for me, I am quite deficient by comparison; Time, money, range facilities, all are limiting factors Very Happy

Thankfully I have airguns...

Right now with my study coming to an end less then 50 a week, or one good fill from my S400 when I visit the range, which is about a 100.

When I had a couple break barrels I was only shooting about 10-20 pellets every other day. I've had a Marauder now for just a little over two weeks & I went through the 500 that came with it in the first week, & lost count of the other various pellet samples I have tried. I'll say this..."DO NOT" try Crosman Premier Pointed. Got a Bug Buster for it...took lees than a clip to zero it in, so far the Discovery pellets that came with it out perform the JSB & H&N's. I love shooting golf balls off the tee, the rubber practice ones of course, then splitting the tee itself.

I'm not sure how many pellets there are below but I shot these from a number of guns, begining 2007 to mid 2009 about 35,000, and 6,000 since then.

Shooting is getting expensive? I might try a cross bow with the bolt on the end of a pice of string. Laughing
