1/2" x 3" pine yard stake at 25 yds.
Reverse:
760 fps. I may not be driving them fast enough for reliable expansion. Still impressive.
Here's 3 recovered from a sand filled coffee cup at 25 yds, same velocity, with an un-fired pellet for comparison.
They have a different p.o.i. than the 10.5 gr premier ultra mag...
With a little rifle tweaking the 24" 13-77, I should be able to wring another 40-60 fps out of them. Surprisingly accurate at the 75 yd mark:
Rather than a lead splash, it chipped the front off of this stone.
Here's a telephoto look at the target. Hold over was two mil-dots at 12X..
Camera was set at 210mm equiv. focal length....
They should be an able hunting pellet, with a bit more velocity. I couldn't get much for groups- the wind was incredibly fickle today. It couldn't make up it's mind how fast, or which way it was gonna gust... I'll get an indoor accuracy test up sometime this week.

Don't worry about the Crosman hollowpoints. They don't expand...
At 75 yards with the wind gusts that still looks like a 2-3" group. Excellent. |

Here's some comparison groups. Scope is sighted in for the "Discovery" hollow point at 25 yds... 5 shots with 13-77 24" bbl, from front rest only. (Follow the dime to avoid confusion on groups)
Not bad. The Ultra mag is still the better pellet though:
Boost in velocity does much for both pellets:
I'm not entirely convinced of the usefulness of a hollow point in a caliber this small. I still think I am driving them too slow for their design.
Hollow point at left, ultra mag at right. Both recovered from a very dense piece of mahogany. Both penetrated less than a 1/4". The hollow point was a bit shallower in the wood than the ultra mag.
Ultra mags are still clocking 760 fps over the chrony at 20 pumps. The hollow point ain't far behind at 748 fps average at 20 pumps.
For my purposes, the ultra mag is the clear choice- they'd give me a better chance at the headshot than the h/p "discovery", on the small game I take. Expansion becomes a bit of a moot point in that equation...

| Just curious. are these the only two pellets you've tried so far through your disco? Best guestimate, how many rounds you've got through it by now? Have you done any modifications or tuning? |
