Wow what a disappointment.
Scope is good enough, trigger isn't bad, groups like 3 to 4 inches at 20 yards.
Yes I fired the 100 rounds break in and then some.
More like 250 pells so far. I tried about every pell on the market and some were worse than others, and all were bad, even the old standby Premiers.
Checked all scope screws, mounts, etc, nice and tight.
Do some air guns need a long break in time, some more than others?

It shouldn't be shooting that bad. At least after 1,000 pellets.

I'm pretty sure some other rifles with a much more proven track record where recommended... just saying.

4-500pellets through it to make a proper judgement. Just pick the cheapest pellets you've got and keep pushing them through- it should tighten up the groups after that.

Well o.k. then. I'll just keep shooting and shooting.
If I remember right when I bought the RWS M-48 years ago it was new and took hundreds of pells befor anything like a group started showing up.
Here are chrono stats if anyone is interested in that sort of thing. 10 feet from the muzzle, Oehler P-35 with Remington NPSS.
Crosman Premiers: 870-708-763-716-773 extreme speard = 162
Diablo 1.037grams 688-690-698-737-690- E.S. = 182
H&N Sport 14.66 grain: 723-719-718-718-717 E.S.= 6 (consistant)
Silver Arrow 657-651-657-660-648 E.S. = 12
Polymag 16.0grain: 672-679-683-681-677 E.S. = 12
H&N Silver Point unk wieght: 659-652-653-653-658 E.S. = 11
Shridan 14.3 grain: 721-737-737-742-739 E.S. = 90
RWS M-48 rifle Crosman Premier: 719-737-737-742-739 E.S.= 7
RWS 850Airmagnum Crosman Premier: 593-579-588-591-593 E.S. = 14
Gamo Shadow .177 Crosman Premier 877-883-866-891-894 E.S. = 28
Best accuracy was from the Shadow at 0.50 inch from a solid bench rest.
A little over 0.50 from the 850 from a solid bench rest as were all groups.
The Shadow is definately a shooter with high velocity using the 10.5 C.P. heavies and it's always shooting .75 inch at 20 or better, usually better.
But that's from a solid bench rest where the aweful trigger isn't so much a handycap.
I should contact Charlie and order his magic trigger because the Gamo, despite being 6 years old turn in consistant velocities with low extreme spreads and hits hard for a .177 caliber. The factory trigger makes offhand shots way too difficult.
I was a little disappointed in the low velocities turned in by the 850 and happily surprised the 10+ year old RWS 48 still shoots hard and accurate.

My Remington NPSS in .177 caliber likes the JSB Diabolo Exact Heavies, 10.2 grains. I was a little disappointed in it myself. I've only put a hundred or so thru mine, but I can see steady improvement. Plus I was a little disappointed in the relatively high amount of recoil. The gun does seem to be particular to how you hold it. I use a very light hold, with the 3-finger tripod hold right in front of the trigger guard.

Have you cleaned the barrel???? Every Crosman/Benjamin I ever bought new came from the factory with a VERY DIRTY barrel......my NPSS took ~800 pellets before it started shooting accurately....just keep on running 'em through it...it 'll get better Smile

As a matter of fact the first thing I did was clean the Remington barrel and it was almost shocking how dirty it was. The patches came out jet BLACK! 10 patches later they came out clean so I'm glad I cleaned it before I shot it.
Groups are beginning to tighten a bit.
I did a seasoning session tonight and after another 75 or so rounds I started getting groups but with flyers. Groups ran 3/4" then one flyer out a couple inches.
I'll try your hold and see if that helps.
I've got about 300 rounds through it now so maybe it wouldn't hurt to give it a light cleaning tomorrow.
One group ran half inch and a 1 inch flyer spoiled the group but it's a huge improvement from the 3 to 5 inches I was getting.
I'll just keep shooting it and if I don't get good groups after a thousand rounds it will go back to Pyramyd for an exchange on something else.
My Gamo isn't really a half bad rifle. Velocities are high and consistant ballistics over the chrono. I'll get one of Charlies triggers and try that.
The only thing wrong about the Gamo is the trigger.
It kills cats real nice.
Hope that doesn't offend anyone. I live in the country and city people dump dogs and cats on me all the freaking time.
This morning I spotted a yellow and white puss sneaking in the tall grass looking for baby rabbits.
I grabbed the Gamo, took a rest off a tree and nailed in right behind the ear. It dropped like it had been sledged.
Good kitty.
I happen to be fond of cats. I have two house cats and I mean HOUSE cats. They are spayed, spoiled rotten, sit on the couch and purr like proper cats should. Cats caught outside are simply targets.

I'm not having any problem with my groups, but my NPSS won't cock every time. Anyone had that problem?

i had a storm that just wouldnt group. but all my other guns shot just fine.i eventual exchanged it and now my newer storm shoots dime sized groups {5 shot} at 20 yards. so im happy. sometimes you get a lemon you need to exchange for a peach. kaz
