Has anyone out there dealt with the mail order company SIR out of Winnipeg.I have been receiving their catalogues and they offer a good selection of airguns ,pellets and accessories.I was just wondering what their service was like.I did hear that they have just been taken over by a company called Cabella's from the states,I don't recognize this name.
Any comments.

Well, excluding outdoorsman's rather strange commentary- Yes, apparently SIR Mail Order had been taken over by Cabela's. I don't know the service or pricing levels that came out of SIR Mail Order previously- but obviously it is likely to follow the Cabela's model if they own it now.
here: www.cabelas.com
Cabelas has never been terribly "airgun specific"- but I don't know the SIR was either. Cabelas has stores- which seem to have grown out of the mid-West (Wisconsin, Idaho, Nebraska). Beyond that, I don't know much about them- I've never heard that they were a great place to buy anything- but I don't recall specifically hearing that they were a terrible place to buy from, either. |

| Their pricing appears to be rather mid-market- as in not too cheap nor too expensive. I wonder how their internet sales/service is. Presumably, Canadians will be finding out soon what their purchase of SIR means in that respect. |

Cabelas has a large catalog mailer. I prefer Midway for service and the 'specials' they run often are very well priced. Cheaper than Dirt, Cabelas, and Sportsman's Guide have let me know that they DO NOT need me as a customer, so I send my orders to folks that want happy customers.
I didn't think A.G.E. would last much longer when I sent in my $200+ Japanese {Hakko} RWS 350 target turret scope for service and got back a $35 Chinese 350 from them. When I called and told them to send back my scope they told me it had gone to the 'repair facility' and I had been compensated with a new scope.
With customer service like that, there is no wondering why the went under. |

Did AirGunExpress go under fully- or did Pyramid buy them before the bottom completely fell out?
Was there some relationship between A.G.E. and Cabelas- or you were just making a sort-of comparison between the two? |

Pyramyd picked up inventory from A.G.E. and left old A.G.E. 'servers' up, but RWS / Diana had pulled the plug on the A.G.E. service agreement well before that.
I don't know of any association between Cabelas or the others, beside the poor quality customer relations after a sale. |
