Normally, this would not be an issue of public debate/discourse- but it is an odd situation that perhaps best be left to the existing membership's point-of-view rather than a purely administrative decision.

As many people are aware from different posts on the forum, "Snowbunny" came along, eventually admitting he had lied initially when he joined and that he was in fact 14-years-old.

Permission from his legal guardian was then, to the best of our ability to judge, obtained, for him to continue visiting/contributing to the forum.

Some of his topics of discussion/posts were a bit out-of-the-norm, and in fact offensive to some people on the forum.

Then, Sunday morning it appeared as though he had come online and erased all his posts. I took this to mean he had issues and obviously did not want to come around the forum any longer; his userid was disabled and his ability to visit was short-circuited by banning his ISP from being able to view the site. An email was also sent to remind him that some people had made an effort on his part and perhaps now looked the fool for giving him an opportunity to prove himself, and what he had done was unacceptable and he was not welcome at AirGunHome any longer.

This morning, the email was responded to by "Snowbunny" claiming he did not understand and was not sure why he could not see the forum any longer. He was told, and went off to investigate at his end. He came back later in the day with the explanation that a "friend" of his decided to mess with him while he was out of town for a couple of days, using his machine w/saved password to log onto the site and remove all SnowBunny's posts.

Is this story believable? Don't know- although if someone erased all their posts it would seem clear they did not want to have anything to do with the forum- not come back with such an explanation and the apparent desire to continue to participate.

So- as a result of this situation- I feel it is more appropriate to put this to a vote, rather than made an Administrative decision among the Moderators on the issue.

Is Snowbunny someone people could tolerate here from this point forward, or more of a pain that despite his apparent desire to talk about airguns, is not worth the hassle to remain as a member?

Please cast your vote before Friday July 23 (almost exactly 72 hours from now) on this issue.

Thank-you,

Eric

Eric,
I cast my vote. IMHO this story about the "friend" deleting
his posts is yet another attempt to make fools of the
people on this forum.
I think this kid needs professional help.

I cast my vote.

I've gotta say, Snowbunny came off as eager. Eager to be accepted as an adult, eager to be a part of the forum, eager to be respected.

I cast my mind back to myself at that age, and I look over my own son at that age, and I think it's something that comes on at that age.

You WANT desperately to be grown-up, and nobody will treat you as one. You want to contribute, but you don't know enough about the serious topics, so what do you do? You goof off a bit. I'd class all his behaviour thus far as... expected.

Not that I think his behaviour's been all that pleasant. But if people don't take the time to help a youngster grow out of this stage, then they don't grow out of it. Kids learn what they see, and if we show them sober, responsible, safe adults enjoying the airgunning hobby, then we'll end up with more of them to take the hobby into the future.

If we leave them to their own devices, and let them pick up their "skills" from the mass media, we'll end up with a younger generation of... well, idiots. Fueled by jackass, 50 cent and the like.

Let's help him grow, and enjoy the sport safely. Let's not let him go out and be one of those idiots that brings disrepute on the whole community.

All I did was say the EPA made poor regulations on diesel engines and it subsequently got me thrown out of a tractor forum Wink

Some places are Moderated to death. Glad to see the Admin here taking into account the wants and feelings of it's members!! IT speaks volumes.

"Snowbunny" never did reappear under a different username- so I guess he got the message way back when...
