Quote:
The days of an open, largely unregulated Internet may soon come to an end.

A bill making its way through Congress proposes to give the U.S. government authority over all networks considered part of the nation's critical infrastructure. Under the proposed Cybersecurity Act of 2009, the president would have the authority to shut down Internet traffic to protect national security.

The government also would have access to digital data from a vast array of industries including banking, telecommunications and energy. A second bill, meanwhile, would create a national cybersecurity adviser -- commonly referred to as the cybersecurity czar -- within the White House to coordinate strategy with a wide range of federal agencies involved.

I just heard this on another forum. I don't think this bill is a good idea.

sounds to me that it would just be invoked in the event of a security issue; not done just because. Most likely something like this wouldnt even get passed though; and most internet providers will find someway for u to get around it.

nothing surprises me about the sitting congress and legislative bodies...they live in a constant state of fear. Rolling Eyes

the result of that fear and paranoia is the suppression of the average citizen. Mad

IMO, there is but a small handful of them that are truly worth having in office. Crying or Very sad

I really don't think the US govament bill is going to shut the internet down world wide...The internets bigger than the US..It may have started there but it grown bigger and out side US control......They only realy have the ability to inforce any control in side US borders.."MAYBE"
