All,
I am a newbie in the air gun field and am in need of some help. I am looking for a rifle that meets most of the following criteria:
1) My wife and I want to practice biathlon style shooting in the back yard, without subjecting the neighbors to the noise from .22 fire. So, we want to find a rifle that has, or, can acommodate a peep sight.
2) Adequate velocity for backyard pest control.
3) A break action or pump arm single loader is OK.
Any direction towards a model that meets these criteria would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim

That list would be quite long, if I was you I would go to pyramidair.com
or airgunsofarizona.com and just start window shopping! Find something that catches you eye and read the reviews.

I too like biathlon and I have a 10 meter range in my basement. My pick for my biathlon rifle is a crosman 2400 custom. You can get these from crosman.com. If you want to compete though you should look at some of these rifles:http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Air_Arms_EV2_Blue_Nickel/1403

http://www.pyramydair.com/p/air-arms-tx-200-air-rifle.shtml

http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Air_Arms_S400_MPR_Target_Special/2061

THese are top of the line rifles. There's not much better. THe 2400 from crosman is available with a peep. I don't recommend those for outdoor target practice with the precision you want because as the temperature changes, so does the point of aim. You will want either a pre charged pneumatic(pcp) or a springer. Either one of these can run several hundred dollars up to 4000 or so for an Olympic competition ready rifle. I like the 2400 for my basement range because the temperature rarely fluctuates more than a couple of degrees so my POI doesn't change hardly at all.

here is the page you might want to look at. It has all prices and styles from olympic to sportster.

This is the one I will own someday:http://www.crosman.com/airguns/rifles/pcp/CH2009S

Welcome, good luck and happy shooting!

In opposition to the Air Airms TX200, you could also look at the Weihrauch/Beeman HW97k. It's a bit cheaper but just as good in terms of accuracy.

I wouldn't use a springer for Biathlon though. The Air Arms S400 MPR would be my first choice. Easily the best quality for that money. This is a bit cheaper though:

Allthough I recommend THAT because I own one and happen to thinkg they're awesome. Will also do great at small pests but it won't have a front sight so you might have to fabricate something yourself. Neutral

Not being sexist but both the TX200 and HK97 are heavy guns 10lb with scope, and not the best choice for a woman. Better off with something like a AA S400.

But there again its a personal choice.

BTW welcome to Airgunhome.

Al

Do you just want to "practice biathlon style" shooting or do you want a biathlon rifle? A biathlon rifle is required to be a .22 cal and that will limit your choices some, because for example the daisy 853 and 753 are .177 cal.

From what I get out of this, he wants to practice.

The 853 is; accurate, simple, easy to shoot, price point.

I don't see him buying a true airgun biathalon rifle to just train for rimfire biathalon. Although, once the addiction spreads... Rolling Eyes

I calculated that into my post. Razz

Still, it may very well be a good starter, that 853. I don't know, never shot one. I don't really like to recommend anything I haven't shot.

Maybe an HW30 with dioptre and such would work too.
