Surgery went well, and I was released on the 3rd day after.... recuperation is slow and painful.... but when you consider just a week ago I was on the operating table I can't complain.... It will be a while before I do any more work in the shop though.... Evil or Very Mad

Thanks to all for your thoughts.... Mr. Green

Hey Bob did they just fit the standard parts or did you make custom bits to increase the performance. Mr. Green

Welcome back Thumb Up!

Al

Funny you should ask.... Shocked

Knees have undergone a lot of changes over the years.... The original metal parts were Titanium (earlier might have been Stainless) and were glued into the reshaped bone ends and had a fixed plastic "cartilege".... They later made that replacable, and made the upper metal part from a porous Tantalum that was full of voids that the bone would actually grow into and make it solid..... The lower part was available in two versions, the "glue-in" Titanium version with replaceable plastic or a "grow-in" Tantalum version which had a permanent plastic part.... neither an ideal situation if it ever wore out and had to be replaced down the road.... Rolling Eyes

For over two years, my Surgeon has been waiting for the "new, improved" version.... both upper and lower made of porous Tantalum but with a removable plastic part.... He was REALLY hoping he would have it for me, as at my age (61) there is a better than even chance I will live long enough to wear out the plastic.... At my weight (~300 lbs) the tantalum is much preferred as the bone-to-metal joint is much stronger once the bone integrates.... Wink

I talked to him just before the surgery, and it turns out that my knee is the third one he has replaced with the latest, greatest parts.... and as a bonus, the plastic is supposed to have 10 times the wear strength.... Cool

Anyway, for the first time since my original knee injury over 40 years ago.... it appears I have finally caught up with technology.... Twisted Evil

Bob

Got the staples out today.... the Doc is very pleased as I have already achieved (in 12 days) 90 degrees of flexion which is expected at 3 months.... Guess it pays to be stubborn and grit your teeth.... Twisted Evil

It's painful, and the 90* is only when basically forced and held.... but I'm over 80* just bending it normally already.... VERY pleased.... Mr. Green
