I would like to fabricate a spring compressor, want to try my hand at tuning, problem is I have been shooting air guns for decades but I've never torn one down. Will be fabricated out of metal, I work for a fairly large mechanical contractor, have every shop tool I could ask for with the exception of a lathe.
What I need is a set of blue prints or a dimensioned drawing. Be honest with you I have no idea what a spring compressor for a air gun looks like, any help would be greatly appreciated. |

| It's like a big C clamp that is held by a vise.The clamping faces are usually steel with a teflon face.You could use a cheap dollar store cutting board for the clamping faces.Look through antoher airgun blog .Nick Carter and derrick38 both made their spring compressors. |

| Much simpler than I had pictured in my head! I can whip up one of these in my garage in no time, which is good because i spent a grip of money on a sweet Miller tig set-up and flat ran out of sh!t to weld. I like your design Kanyon, believe I have some 1.25 sq tube left over from a previous project, thinkin I could make a UHMW pinch block to hold the gun as opposed to a metal clamp. |

If you have a decent mill, jut pad the gun action in the mill vice, chuck a 1/2" rod in the spindle, and position it to back up the spring retaining plug. You may need to make a cushioned spacer to rest between the pin and the endplug.
Use the carriage traverse to tension or release the plug.
I've fiddled with airguns for over 25yrs, an just thought of this method last week! Worked fine on a new Remington NPSS gasram rifle. Used a short nylon spacer against the plug. |
