when I use the iron sights in my crosman quest to aim, I am able to keep both eyes open and just see the "goast" image produced from the sights. I think this is a huge advantage as the whole target picture can be seen.

That's how you're supposed to do it... I don't think it works past 35 yards though, unless you're using an optic.

I agree I always read that you can only see "half the target" when using iron sights, but if your doing it right, this simply isn't true.

For some people that have eye conditions it is true. Some of us only focus out of one eye even though we have both open. We also can see the 3D movies or many of the optical illusions.

Besides the visual advantage, keeping both eyes open keeps the muscles in your face more relaxed. Being relaxed means less tendency to pull off target when the trigger breaks.

Its the same when I look through my finder on my telescope, they call it adverted vision. Your using one eye to get the whole picture, while the other is on the target. Now that I thing about it, I'm not sure were talking the same thing...but either way, it takes much practice. What Slavia said is the absolute reason for using that type of vision in astronomy, simply to relax, if your having to constantly squint your one eye you will start to experience an eye twitch & muscle spasm's after a while. But then again, I guess its a big difference looking through a telescope eyepiece for hours vs aiming the gun for a few seconds here & there.
