| I love the mounts for my springer. They never come loose, and this is after trying several others. I upgraded my scope to a larger objective. The bottom of the lens housing just rests on top of the rifle a bit. Its been dead accurate since i mounted it. Are there and issues with leaving it this way? |

| It shouldn't hurt anything that I can see. It may transmit a little more vibration to the scope. If nothing else just for peace of mind you can shim it up a little bit if you put a couple small pieces of paper in the bottom of the scope ring. |

Instead of paper, I would use a piece of film negative, thin plastic, or metal shimstock....

That'd be my choice as well... a few .002" thick pieces of metal (stainless steel, brass or even aluminum if you can find it) would be what I'd go with.
Another, more "gorrilla" method would be to lightly file the bottom of the scope objective bell until you could get a .001" feeler gauge thru it.

I find the plastic fake credit cards you get in spam snail mail offers can be cut very nicely for shims. Cheap and green too

Depends on how much "a bit" is. If it touches enough so the mounts distort the tube when tightened, then it's probably not good.
Aluminum pop cans are good for shim material. Beer cans also, but then you have to figure out what to do with all that nasty beer. Raid your recycling bin - you'll probably have lots of thicknesses from which to choose. |
