| Does anyone know what the factory settings would have been for the hammer spring preload, hammer stroke and the velocity metering screw? Thanks. Steve |

i don't know. i don't believe the book says.
adjust everything down yourself then count the turns?
i'd just send crosman an email. i've had good response in the past. |

Well the reason I ask is because when my rifle arrived last week from A.O.A., the set screw that covers the velocity metering screw was missing. And when I contacted them to see if they may have changed something before shipping they couldn't tell me for sure if they had. This is not to say that it didn't leave Crosman without the set screw.
After referring to the manual the velocity adjuster screw will bottom out with a maximum of 4 1/2 turns out, however, it sounds lilke the hammer spring preload and stroker adjusters will not bottom out (found on page 8), so therefore, how do you know where the starting position is?
Thanks |

ooooooh that's a hard one.
i'd send an email to crosman's tech department.
do you have a chrony???
what i can tell you is out of the box mine was peeking at 785 fps with kodiaks at 1800psi.
i've opened my velocity adjuster (nothing else) 1.5 turns out now i'm at 802 fps peeked at the same 1800 psi.
i haven't adjusted anything else because my scuba tank won't do a 3000psi fill.
sorry i can't help more. |

Yes, I have sent them an email and still awaiting an answer. I'm using a Shooting Chrony Beta model chronograph with lighting. Here's some shot data as the rifle stands out of the box with no adjustments:
3000 psi starting fill
Crosman Premier Ultra Mags 10.5 gns
The best results of 7 strings of 10 were #4,5 and6:
#4 yielded 892 lo, 907 hi, 897 avg. 2700psi start 2600 end
#5 yielded 899 lo, 907 hi, 903 avg. 2600 psi start 2500 end
#6 yielded 884 lo, 905 hi, 894 avg. 2500 psi start 2400 end
#1 was the worst at an avg. of 810 with the 3000 psi start 2900 end (I'm guessing due to valve lock.
The metering screw is set at one half (1/2) out from bottom
It seems to be pretty consistent at using 10psi per shot and it did this for 70 straight shots |

Ooops, little correction on the velocity metering screw setting, it's two and a quarter out (2 1/4) not a half.
I've found some articles on the Crosman site where they mention factory settings and optimum settings for the Premier 10.5's. Looks like the preferred setting is 800-850 fps for the best accuracy, I guess I'll have to detune mine or reduce fill pressure.
Yeap, love this rifle and the chrony too. Too bad this damn printer seems to be troublesome. I've already had two in two weeks, both with the same problem. |

remember. the highest accuracy and power is with the most heavy pellet at a modest velocity (under 900fps IMO)
what are you using for the max fill, tank or pump?
on my .22. i'm getting 710 fps peaked with 28.4 eun jins. that's
32 fpe@1800 psi. |

Both the hammer spring preload and the stroke adjusters DO bottom out if turned counterclockwise. All the way bottomed counter clockwise on the spring preload sets it at minimum. All the way bottomed counterclockwise on the stroke adjustment is the maximum stroke. You count turns in (clockwise) from there. Unfortunately I do not know the factory settings for the 177, sorry. |

Teryx,
That's great to know, I was a little reluctant to start turning them. The owner's manual was vague on this. Thanks again. Steve |

My testing so far has been with out of the box settings of 2 1/4 in for hammer spring and stroke and 2 1/4 from bottom on the velocity starting with a 3000 psi fill from a 4500 CF tank. The results are as previously mentioned. With the best velocity at the 2700 start psi. But maybe the 900 muzzle velocity will hurt long range accuracy.
Because of the weather I haven't been able to do any testing outdoors and right now it's zeroed for 15 yds, so I'm unsure how the 10.5's will track out to 30-50 yards at the 900 fps setting. I'll have to try some heavier loads when I get the chance. Thanks. |
