Is it easy to add turrets to a scope that doesn't have them such as a Bushnell Elite? If so, are there any custom turrets out there? I've done a few searches and come up empty.

If by "turret" you mean adjustment knobs, here are some:

Or you can make your own with electronics knobs from Radio Shack:

Thanks a bunch Slavia. The first two links look promising. The last one appears to only be for Leupold scopes unless I missed something. Thanks again.

Just for reference, I called Bushnell customer service today and asked if it was possible to retrofit a 5-15X40 Elite scope with tactical style knobs. Ironically, she asked "are you talking about turret knobs?" She did a little research for me and told me that it was not possible to retrofit their tactical turret knobs to my scope. She was very nice and took a good bit of time hunting the answer down for me though.

I tried to contact Lake Engineering today as well. I left a message on his answering machine, but never got a reply back. Guess I'll try tomorrow.

It is possible to unscrew the entire turret from the wall of the scope tube - shaft, housing, knob, and all. Even if you have a replacement that fits, it's still not advisable. Once you open up that nice, sealed tube you will introduce humidity which can condense and fog the lenses from the inside. That's a job for the manufacturer, and they are saying nix.

If you notice, all the retro-fit knobs in some way fit on the outside, often replacing the dust caps.

Oh, I'm well aware of the above. Obviously most custom knobs fasten in some way to the existing adjusters. As you say, effectively replacing the dust covers. However, there a number of different adjuster designs so the makers of custom knobs have to make a knob that incorporates a means of fastening it.

In the case of my Bushnell Elite, the adjusters are in the form of a rectangular raised section with two screws in it. In one of the links that were provided above, the manufacturer showed a whole series of pictures of adjusters that he does NOT make knobs for. Mine seemed to be one of them.

I called Lake Precision several times this week and never got an answer. I left messages, but no return call. In the message I indicated what scope I'm looking for knobs for, so I'm guessing that he doesn't make them and doesn't want to waste the call to tell me. Either that or he's on vacation. Who knows.

Maybe I should just make a pair myself on my trusty little Unimat lathe.
