I wrote to Crosman and told them Pelgunoil was not available here in the stores and that the shipping cost too much for buying on line. I ask if I could use Gamo oil and this is the reply I got from Crosman's representative Janice DeLong....

Don,
Airguns don't need serious cleaning. We recommend just using a clean cotton patch and running it through until it comes out clean.
Our Pellgun oil has no petroleum distillates, and most others do. The petroleum distillates will eat the seals in our guns. You'd be better off using automatic transmission fluid. I was told by an engineer that that's what the Pellgun oil is.
Thanks for contacting Crosman. Have a great day!
Jan

As per the reply from Cosman's representative "The petroleum distillates will eat the seals in our guns."

I would say that for Daisy I would use oil but from what I saw of the manual it doesn't say what oil. As for Crosman and the Crosman forums I am afraid I would have to follow the advice of the representative from Crosman as in the forums if a person uses something or does something and does not have a problem does not mean it is good for my gun but if when communicating with a company like Crosman and I can quote there representative then that puts it up to them to find the answer. So for my Crosman I will use automatic transmission fluid.

So what the crosman man is saying is that the seals they use are
of a lower quality than seals used in engines....after all petroleum
oils don't desolve them..

For what it's worth, automatic transmission fluid can also be a petroleum product. Here's one that contains "petroleum distillates":
http://www.marathonpetroleum.com/content/documents/mpc/msds/0303MAR019.pdf

And a couple more that contain mineral oil:

But mineral oil also comes from petroleum:

Thanks Slavia, I had not heard of petroleum based transmission fluid and will have to be careful of the kind I get.
