They are heavy (weight-wise) and expensive compared to alot of other products. I also don't recall too many Italian companies been noted for their engineering acumen.

When I picked up an X5, an X10 and an X20 at a show earlier in the year- the unscoped weight was a barrier- especially so on the X5 compared to its claimed output (800fps).

The lowest power Stoeger, the X5- should translate to a B18/19, but certainly was NOT a B18/19. So unless they have re-vamped the products since I saw them at the SHOT show in January, they may not be Chinese variations.

They're not made in China. The stocks are pretty well finished. I think I've read somewhere they're made in Turkey but I can't find the article...

Stoeger, sounds like Steyr and Ruger or something. Mr. Green

Weird. Well, if I ever run into that article. Maybe the Euro versions are assembled in Turkey or something...

The X5, X10, and X50 are all springers:
http://usa.stoegerairguns.com/index.php

So is the X20:
http://www.airgunbuyer.com/webnews.asp?ID=584

Here are the specs:
http://usa.stoegerairguns.com/specifications/

The AoA blog says they are Turkish:
http://www.airgunsofarizona.com/blog/2009/05/impressions-from-nra-show.html

Which I can believe, since they all have the safety in the same position as the Hatsan (Turkish) line, especially the model 95SAS:
http://www.hatsan.com.tr/new_airguns_mod_95_sas.asp

But then on the other hand, the Stoeger adjustable triggers have the adjusting screw in the same position (and performing the same function) as the Gamo/B18-19/Crosman style trigger:
http://usa.stoegerairguns.com/customer_service/stoeger_airguns_manual_usa.pdf

But I saved the best for last - they don't require any breaking-in:
