I was at my friends house last night and we were having a good time and everything. He started playing with his 3 month old puppy and his older dog trying to get the puppy to jump on its back. All of a sudden it jumped up and fell back and begain yelping hysterically. The dog was obviously crippled by pain and could not walk. I've seen injured animals before, but never have I seen an animal in this much pain making that kind of noise.

They took it to the emergency vet and I went home. Today I found out that it's femur had exploded and shards of bone were jutting out inside its leg. My friend made the tough, yet wrong decision to take the dog home eventhough the vet told them they should put her down right there.

Today they turned it over to the humane society to be euthanized. It was a very upsetting and tragic experience for us all. One minute your having fun and playing with your new puppy and the next minute its mortally injured. Such is life I guess.

Friend of mine waited the a while after his last dog died. When he was finally ready to get another one, he goes to a registered AKC breeder. Spends small fortune for a "pure bred" german shepard. 9 mos old. About a week after he gets it home, notices that it has problems walking, so takes it to the vet. Dog has hip displacia, vet says it's only going to get worse, and the poor pup has mebbe a year to live. My friend is devistated, he knows the best thing to do is put it down, but it's so young and full of energy he can't bring himself to do it.
