Guy bought a 24" barrel for his Talon.... I get the hand me down 18"... Hummm.... will it fit one of my guns.... Let's find out...
Out of all my 22xx's... My 2260 Wanabee Disco Carbine is the most powerful and accurate. I can take out beer bottles at 220 yards.... So I can't immagine it being more accurate.... So this is my pick...
The first problem to over come is the fact that the Talon barel is chambered down from 5/8" to 5/16".... A standard Crosman 22xx barrel is 7/16".... So there is a gap that won't allow me to use a Crosman breech. Both in ID and in Height. So I machined out a new breech... I chose 7/8" OD Brass... The mini's does not like to work with Cold Rolled steel that well... Plus the Brass gives it a nice touch...
The other option here was to cut off the chamber area, re-chamber the barel for a crosman breech and make a thin riser to get the lift I needed to clear the gas tube. But... this option would have left me with a 15" long barrel... I like the 18.
I am using 6"x7/8" bar stock
Center Drilled on the lathe
Bored 1/4" all the way through
Barrel end bored to 5/16" and counter sunk to 5/8" ID 1" Leaving some room for error... I boared short for a final fitting later...
***NOTE***
This is my very first breech. To help thoes who attempt this... Do all your locating from the rear of the breech and all the top work before rotating the stock to do the bottom and side work.
After taking careful measurements from the Stock CR Steel Breech... I milled out the loading area to half the thickness of the breech. Make several slow passes on each cut to depth leaving the front and rear areas for last to bring it to size.
Drilled and counter sinked my rear and mid mounting holes to fit the hardware that I am using to attach the breech. Drilled the set screw holes to mount the barrel.
Cool thing is... Weaver # 418 rails fit perfectly on 7/8" OD stock... so I did not have to mill in dovetails for mounting a scope.
With all the top work done and my weavers mounted perfectly flat... Now for the bottom work.
Using a 7/8" ball nose end mill... I milled the mounting surface to down to a 1/16" gap between the barrel and gas tube & Milled out for the hammer pin.
Sorry... I did not snap a photo of milling out the bolt handle area on the side...
Clean up the bore and burrs.... Put it back on the lathe for a quick sanding and final barrel fit...
All that is left to do is make a new tx port tube/seal, end plug, Brass Barrel Band and a longer hammer pin.
It's in the tumbler for fine de-burring and to smothe out the finish.
I might flute the sides for both style and to cut down some weight...
The only mod that had to be done for the Talon Barrel was to Drill the TX port and a slight taper in the loading port. But with that... it locks right into the new breech with 3 set screws.
Here are a few test fit photos...
I will need to instal Mid Rise weaver rings on my scope so the AO adjustment does not bind on the new barrel.
Wooo hooo... A choked Walther Loather barrel on a HPA 2260.... I can not wait to finish and take it out to the pit to compare the accuracy. The top end on this puppy is now worth $300 with out the optics.... What happened to the $79 Co2 rifle???

So have I got this right?.... The original 2260 parts remaining are:
Main Tube (drilled for mounting valve and guage)
Trigger group
Hammer
Bolt handle (threaded to fit Disco bolt)
Did I miss anything?....

Dead on Bob.
Even the botom valve screw is that of a Disco.
Remember, 955 fps with CR premiers before the WL Barrel... Too fast for CR pellets to fly straight... but never the less a good common pellet for a base line... It loved JSB Jumbo Heavies... Dead accurate for long range shooting.
Shoot it loves anything heavy. Eunjin, Kodiaks, but not the new Gamo TS-22s. spirals the hell out of thoes...
I am very curious what it will do with a choked barrel.

I like you mods Joe or should I say re-engineered Disco, it will be interesting to see what difference the Walther barrel will make.
As for an adjustable Butt plate I think it’s a personal thing, I’ve tried a few and have not been impressed, I think Springer’s have to be treated differently to Co2 or HPA Rifles, I’m Playing around with one at the moment for my TX, which just has an adjustable finger that rests on the top of the shoulder, hoping that it will hold it steady on the recoil, It’s early days yet has it also need to fold down out of the way when not required.
When I get it off the drawing board I’ll post some photos.

My issue with the butt plate is bench shooting... I would like to hold position hands free for loading. The current butt plate tends to slip down.
I am still trying to figure what I did differently between this and the Disco for power... I am averaging 45 fps higher than the Disco... I milled the angle and size of the tx identical.
The only real difference is the barrel lengths... 18" for the carbine and 24" for the Disco... My only thought could be the 24" has more drag. But that big of a gap? I don't know.
Well back to work... I switched to nights... It's just too hot to get any real work done durring the day... |

Interesting- but why machine a dovetail on the breech and then screw-on the weaver rails? Or is it just too much of a pain to machine Weaver rails directly?

There are no dovetails machined into the breech.
I needed the lift for the scope to clear the barrel.
I won't know till it's done... Production parts are taking time away from my toys... The breech is in the tumbler to prep it for polishing.
I did sneek in a matching brass power adjuster... he he.... Photos later...
I need to order brass for the barrel band...
One nice touch and trick would be to machine a brass trigger to replace the plastic one.... Hummmm....

Joe you problem with the butt plate is exactly the same as mine, that’s why I am working on a support to go on the top of the shoulder, so as you can take your right hand off the gun to reload, with out the butt slipping down.
Great minds think alike.
