It occured to me the other day that I may have a problem! I think I might be cyberstitious! What I mean is that I have developed certain habits when using my computer and I feel if I vary from them something horrible will happen to my computer! As an example, when I start up in the morning I turn on the "power strip", at this point my printer makes all that cycling noise and I WILL NEVER hit the power button on my computer until it is done cycling and quiet. I fear that if I do bad things will happen! Do any of you have simmilar Cyberstitions? (Or is it just me)

Nope, but before I get on my motorcycle I allways put on my left glove first.

"Cyberstitious!" Hahahaha, I love it! Laughing

Actually, I had a few of these over the years and I think most of them have been burned away by hard use but I still have at least one left.

I've had a flat screen monitor on one computer or another since 1998. Back in the early days, they gave dire warnings that you shouldn't touch the screen surface. Well, I took that to heart and even after having somebody "prove" it wasn't harmful to the screen, I've NEVER touched the screen in all that time.

I guess it's kinda like the soft spot on baby's head. You know it's safe to touch but still... Shocked

I don't know if I'm "CYBERSTITIOUS", but I am downright paranoid about lightning strikes damaging my electronics(computer, TV, DVD player, stereo). This stuff isn't cheap. I don't trust even the best grounding and surge/spike suppressors to protect in the event of a direct hit. If I see dark clouds, I unplug everything.

My only cybersuperstition is in reugards to emails. If I offer you my email adress, it comes with a warning... Do NOT include me with ANY mass mailings. I only give one chance with this one. Too many viruses are spread through email attachments...even if you do have a virus checker, why take the risk that's not something you're virus checker hasn't been updated to handle yet?

Also, would like to warn everyone about this. If you're system is set in the BIOS to automatically boot when power is turned one, turn this feature off.

Lemme explain. Few years back a rain/ice storm...followed by high winds hit our area. In a matter of a few minutes the power "popped" 5 or six times. The power would go out, the come back on, computer would start to reboot, and before it made it through the post tests, the power would go out again. This happened so fast I couldn't get to my computer room fast enough to shut down my system. Even though I have all my equipment on surge protectors, it still blew out my hard drive, sound card, net work card, my network router and the power supply on my speakers all in the matter of minutes!

That's why I say, you don't want your computer to auto reboot when power comes back on. ONLY when you press the power switch!

Roy, That would not work here! In central Florida you'd have to unplug everyday, most of the day! We are the lightning capitol.
