So I haven't been hunting in the last week due to personal issues, but I have still been throwing some seed out there for the birdies. Well, with no danger to impede them, they have been going apeshit. The other day I counted 12 female grackles out there. It was like they were all having a party or something. The doves were mixed in with them too.
The problem (for them) is that I just got my Walther SG9000 bb shotgun. I haven't had the chance to fire it, but I did read one review that said that it is fairly powerful, even with the 3 shot burst. I plan on going home and using it with extreme predjudice on those birds. Just starting this thread now in preparation for the onslaught.
It's not all bad though, because the birds have become very aggressive (and loud) and are coming up under our porch and drinking the dogs water and crapping everywhere. Those grackles are tough as nails, but I figure a few 3 shot bursts of bbs into their midst will change all that. |

I just looked at it on pyramyd and it seems it fires one bb at a time or 3 at once.
Does it fire like 10 bbs at once, and then 3 of those 10 shots on the burst?
A single 5.4gr BB moving 500fps is enough to kill a bird (done with my Red Ryder many times as a little kid). But why not just use your other guns if that just shoots one at a time? |

No, it has a select fire switch. One shot or three shot. I assume that the three shot burst is not an automatic burst with three individual shots in rapid succession. But rather it is a group of three bbs that get blasted out the barrel at once. That worried me at first because I thought it would slow them down, but apparently even the three shot burst has some good power to it.

I wouldn't have gotten it unless it had the three shot burst. I hate hunting with bb guns normally, but burst fire and automatic fire give you a distinct advantage. I plan on only using the three shot burst mode when hunting. |

This is just a generic photo. Mine looks the same but with a laser mounted to the top rail. It actually has four rail mounts, but I took off the two on the sides to lighten the gun and make the foregrip easier to grasp. Not sure why you would need to mount FOUR accessories to this type of ag, but whatever.
I got to fire it briefly before the buzz kill bus arrived. Fired single and tripple burst. Seems like the burst keeps the pellets grouped tight--about one inch at 10 yards--which is excellent. And it definitely packs a punch.
The major downside is the trigger. It's not even a trigger in my book, rather a lever that you have to pull with your finger. The trigger controls the cocking and loading of the pellets in the breech so there is a lot of clunky mechanics in there which will make accuracy and easy shooting much harder than it needs to be. I'm hoping that works itself out with use.
And I may have to wait another day before field testing it... |

1" at 10 yards is minute of starling. Especially when you have them grouped together.
Good thing is that BBs are cheap, makes up for the CO2. |

| I think I spoke too soon on the group size. Looks more like about 3 inches at 10 yards. That'll work for me since I shoot really close range. My goal is to hit the bird with at least two bbs on one shot. But maybe if a couple birds are close together or if I take a shot at a group of birds at a further distance, I could get lucky and hit multiple birds. We'll see what happens once the birds show up. |

Here is what it looks like. You can see the bbs there too, which is nice since you can see how many shots you have left.
This is a ten yard test on a simulated bird target. As you can see its about what I thought it'd be. Two bbs hit and one misses. I shot it again (after the pic) and had the exact same results. |

Now that you know it groups like that, use it to your advantage! Aim a bit higher and to the left, 3 perfect kill shots.
One to the wing, one to the vitals, one to the head/neck. Done.
Try using the copper plated BBs, they shoot better in my Red Ryders than the zinc ones. |

Yes, 88gram co2. 480 fps (not chronied yet). I don't know the charge weight.
Yes, it does seem to spray up and to the right. That'd be sick to get two body shots and a head shot. We'll see this weekend! |

| I think most "normal" people call us insane. Keep airguns by the door for the critters. When I go outside I have a gun on me 99% of the time. Can't risk letting the squirrel go! |

| We're just addicts. I have to sit here all day and wait to get home to start shooting again. I could literally sit there all day, whether at home or out in the field, and airgun hunt. |
