I glassed a gaggle last night that I have been watching for the past few weeks. 4 adults and at least 8 young. They will taste good, if they aren't disease ridden to hell and back.
Got a rabbit from the same area last night. When I got him back to the house to skin him, I found him to be covered in mites and ticks (and my right arm itching, which I was holding him with). Upon further dissection there were spots on the liver, and what looked like worms in its stomach (poor knife work nicked it). Good thing I wasn't going to eat it!
The fur was large though, and in decent shape. |

You can douse the carcass in a rubbing alcohol solution before skinning it. Won't damage the fur and will eventually evaporate off. And any vermin attached to the fur will either die or get off the carcass.
Btw, I'd love to blast a turkey with my ag's. Too bad its not legal. |

"Too bad it's not legal"
Exactly my dilemma. And those damned turkeys won't stay still- you would need some serious power or a really hard headshot. |

| If you shoot them high in the back you could probably do a serious number on them. With a high powered ag in 22 cal, you could hit them anywhere and kill them, or at least cripple them enough for a finishing shot. |

| A .22 Kodiak moving 1000fps will probably kill just about anything with good placement. |

| And remember the dog whisperer move. If you go "cht!" Most animals will turn and look and stand perfectly still for at least one second. There's your head shot right there. |

IT WORKS! I DO THAT ALL THE TIME TO GET CRITTERS TO STOP.
I make a squeek like a mouse or a short whistle, stops most critters in their tracks. Except the dumb ones... they are already standing still. |

| Yeah fritzy, that's an old dear hunting trick. If the buck is hauling asss through the trail right past your tree stand, it doesn't do you much good to have a good hunting spot. So you make a non-humanlike noise to get the deer's attention and make them stop for a moment. Most animals like to know where and what they are running from. So you have that brief pause to take your shot. |
