Accidents treated in hospital emergency rooms per 100,000 participants:

Football 235.0
Basketball 171.3
Bicycle Riding 112.7
Baseball 109.8
Fishing 14.6
Golf 13.9

Hunting 0.4

Of course, this has to be tempered with a source wanting to promote hunter education, the number of participants, and the potential lethality of hunting accidents. Still, it's a pretty sharp contrast.

Data from the National Sporting Goods Association and International Hunter Education Association incident summary (both 2005). Found in Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, "Hunter Education News & IHEA Journal," Spring 2009, Vol. 34, p. 4.

Doctors kill more people than my guns.

Except for a couple doctors I killed Twisted Evil . Just kidding...

I think "highly trained" cops are more dangerous than our guns, have you seen those guys shooting a 15 round mag and maybe hitting once?

I used to make my living teaching cops (among others) how to shoot and believe me, "highly trained" isn't a phrase that applies to most of them. A good 90% of sworn LEOs out there can barely hit the ground with their hat. But the other 10%? Well, they're gun people too and their performance on the range shows it. Contrary to what most folks think, the vast majority of LEOs out there are not regular shooters and the ones who ever have to draw their sidearm in the line of duty are very few and far between.

As for the hunting statistics, well...

Facts and reality are wasted on the willfully ignorant. You can never convince a fool of a truth he or she does not want to believe.

Not sure where I heard it... but PETA has their 100% recycled fair-trade panties in a knot.

Why do they have them in a knot this time? You might ask...

BECAUSE OBAMA SWATTED A FLY! A fly... seriously.
