Crosman guns I have are the 1077, Quest and Phantom (more than one of a couple of those). For 30-60 foot shooting, the Quest or Phantom would likely do A-Ok, whereas the 1077 can be a real "crap shoot" as to how good it comes from the factory (it's often what I'd call a 'fixer upper' gun) but it's loads of fun if you get one operating properly. 12 shot clip, bulk fed- you can sit and shoot off a pile of pellets up to 30m fairly accurately, only stopping to reload magazines. Yesterday I was testing my 1077 again and shot through 174 pellets in about 5 minutes (15 clips)- now my wood target backer is destroyed. Not the absolutely most accurate gun- but fun.

Of the guns I've got- probably the Quest 1000 in .177 caliber would be the best for accuracy. However- I wouldn't suggest anyone take "Crosman" and "accuracy" to the bank, they have extreme variations in quality control- sometimes a gun comes out being more than you expect, sometimes far less. You may want to think more 'upscale' like a Diana or such.

I like it . . .

Made new seals for it after the original ones 'popped out' of it. I do seem to be very nearly the only person on the planet that likes the fit of the factory grip shape though. Metal has a nice deep black 'blue' finish that has held up well for 3 years of bug killing duties.
`
I usually put a drop or 2 of silicone oil on all of the seals about every tin of pellets or so and it most accurately shoots the 7.9grn Vogel 4.90mm match pellets consistently at 510f/s but is also acceptably accurate for bug duty with crosman wadcutters shooting at just a bit lower velocity.

These seals were made from soft faucet washers.

Bound them on a bolt and spun them in a chuck whilst shaping them with a dremel cutting blade. Inexpensive though time consuming. {fitting took about 20 min for each seal}

Targets shot with 4.90mm usually group all in the black, just haven't taken a photo of those target cards . . .

Same question on the GTA

I have heard a lot about seals on Baikals... many people say they come off soon and its a pain, so what is it all about? Actually what are the seals and what are they used for ? Question

Also what Rifles would you suggest for long range plinking or bench rest airgun shooting ?

Thanks for the information. Thank-You

Hi 23ib0d0n,

I got my new IZH-46M yesterday and it shoots great. I had some questions though..

- since the front and the rear sites are all black .. do you use anything to make the front site look different ? e.g. flourecent paint or something?

- The manual says we should oil the compression chamber every 500 pellets so how do we do that?

- What oils you recommend for lubrication?

Also can you pls give me some tips .. and tricks about the IZH Mr. Green

well my first experiences .. looking at the gun just out of the box were... ohh it is a huge gun.. the grips are little bulky but .. they work for my hands .. i may polish it with sand paper.. the trigger is extremly soft.. you don't notice when the gun actually went off. yeah it is muzzle heavy and you need stong hands to hold it straight. It shoots great .. right out of the box.. Smile i will put couple hundred pellets through it .. when i hit the range this saturday.

overall a great gun with great price. Wink Wink

Thanks in advance.

Seals hold the high pressure air in. In this case they seal between the valve inlet through the transfer port into the barrel.

Made new seals for it after the original ones 'popped out' of it. Bound them on a bolt and spun them in a chuck while shaping them with a dremel cutting blade. Inexpensive though time consuming. {fitting took about 20 min for each seal} The seals are tighter and haven't popped out any more.

I have painted sights on hunting guns before. Coat with white out first, then use florescent.

Silicone oil aka: compressor oil, NOT air tool oil or motor oil.

I like the IZH, and it is very accurate. The grip is a nice shape for me, but I still prefer the Diana 6m for balance and hand placement. If the grip on the IZH could pivot more to take the twist off of my wrist I would like it alot better.

Hi 23ib0d0n,

That was a very very precious piece of information thanks a lot... but i still didn't got the compression cylinder lubrication part.

I guess the pictures show how we can change the piston... i think there should be some kind of easy way to lubricate the compression chamber isn't it ? Wink Wink

Thanks once again. Mr. Green Mr. Green

Silicone oil is a seal preservative that is used on the transfer port seals and the piston seal where the cocking slot begins, with the cocking lever open and in the maximum fully extended position.

Ease one or two drops in at the piston head every few hundred pellets, and just a slight coating on the transfer port seals to preserve them against oxidation. This 46m has been doing very well for over 4 years now, with the only maintenance being the oiling schedule and regular bug killing duties.

{Combat stance is steadier than olympic offhand, but the bugs can't tell the difference}

I own a military surplus compressor with a 9,000cu. ft. dessicant filter, so now I just use milspec compressor oil for any compressed air seals.

Me filling an 88 cu. ft. 4500psi / 550 cu. in. volume tank with compressed air.

Any quality silicone oil that DOES NOT have ANY petroleum distillates is fine.

I have used plumbers silicone, divers silicone, DOT 5 silicone brake fluid, dielectric fluid / gel, and scanner / copier silicone oil as long as the label shows no petroleum products of any kind in it, all with acceptable results.
