new to the sight

i am planning on making my own high powered pellet riffle
probably around ~3500psi behind the pellet (not sure on caliber yet .22 or .177 or maybe both)
(that will plug into a 125psi high volume air compressor)
and i will have tons of questions

if there is a topic that contains the answer point my in that direction because i will ask to many questions :/

if there is a general topic that can teach me a lot about designing a riffle, that would be awesome

i thank you in advance for your help and knowledge

Hello:

Post your questions in the appropriate area and I am sure you will get answers. For a ground-up airgun build, the most suitable area is going to be "Airgun Smithing" I would think.

As for your project- how would you get 3500psi out of a 125psi compressor? Are you planning to build a number of stages/valving system to try and make this work?

Hello and welcome to Airgun Addicts (did I say addicts? I meant Home).

You could get a high volume chamber with low psi, or a low volume high psi.

It's about impossible to make 125psi into 3500psi without some serious pumps, try to get a scuba or argon welding tank.

Try fiddling with a couple low end pcp rifles like the Discovery, so you can learn how they work.

to get the 3500psi i was going to use surface area on pistons to change volume into pressure

(the larger piston about 3 inches in diameter is pushed by the low pressure air, the high pressure piston is pushed by the low pressure piston which intern compresses the air more)

i am not sure if i could create that much, but if the air is static it though calculations should work.

one thing i do need to find is a high pressure quick release valve because i don't think the air will build up enough in time to push on the pellet

for the drive piston i was going to use the design of a pneumatic air gun so that it would compress the fastest

I'm not sure what you hope to gain by pushing a .177 or .22 pellet with that much pressure. I don't have the figures infront of me, but several on here have proven that the deisgn of the pellet make it unstable in flight once it goes beyond a certain speed. Once pushed past this speed the pellet then begins to tumble making it very inaccurate.

Yeah, but sh!t...I'd like to see him try to push a pellet that fast. Just to see.

well, we will see

maybe i can get it to shoot around corners

(i thought that it only became unstable at transonic speed above and below that are fine)

if anything i could crank the pressure down and have more shots

is there a chart or information on how to relate psi to velocity?(with out friction and other factors)
