I picked up a pt-80 over the weekend. I nice little shooter, only about 350 fps. But I was pretty impressed with the mechanics of it, however the trigger pull was awful (as you come to expect with any c02 pistol).
I decided to try to tinker with the hammer/sear so i opened her up. I should've taken more care when doing so, because she kind of popped opened and some springs jumped out. It took me a good couple hours to figure out her internal workings and file down the sear. I thought I'd done it perfect, but I filed too much apparently, and eventhough the gun fired properly when I tested it without the case screwed on. As soon as I screwed it on tight, the hammer wouldn't engage the sear. So the pistol was basically not going to work at that point.
So, I just went back to the store and told the airgun savvy woman (NOT)who sold me the gun that it didn't work right. She tested it and saw that it wasn't working right and gave me the display model in exchange, which was brand new itself she said. I then took it home, opened it up carefully this time. And with a much better understanding of the internals, I gently grinded the sear down and reassembled succesfully. Haven't put in c02 in her yet to actually fire it, but the trigger mechanism is definitely working how I want it too.
I like this pt-80 because it has an 8 shot clip, as opposed to a six shot on my beeman. And the clip is a better design and doesn't cause jams. Also, it has a rifled barrel instead of a cheap smooth bore tube. So with the refined trigger, I should be able to get some good accuracy with it. |

Roger, does it bother you at all that you ruined the first gun and then
got it exchanged by taking advantage of the fact that the clerk didn't
know that you had opened it and ruined it? Most states call that
"theft by deception". You ought to be ashamed. heh heh |

Doesn't really bother me. Because that same store has sold me defective products in the past. Even sold me a display model springer once (my very first one). And when I got it home I found out it had been cocked that whole time.
Also, they send "defective" products back to the manufacturer, in this case Gamo. So Gamo has to fix the product and/or eat the loss. But if Gamo would make the triggers on their guns suitable in the first place, then people wouldn't have to potentially break them by trying to modify the triggers. |

Got home today and finally loaded some co2 in there. After two shots it stopped working completely....of course!
I took it back apart with the co2 still in there AND a round stuck in the barrel (remember, safety first). I found all sorts of things wrong starting with a little piece of plastic that was half way broken off. I don't know what that part serves, but I am now superglueing it back together. The spring in the trigger made no sense to me, so I had to bend it with pliers just to get it to fit in there. Gamo's designers and life itself, are throwing everything they have at me to make this thing not work. But we'll see what I can pull out of my a$$ here. |
