Spotted the infamous groundhog that digs up the wife's plants and such that I have to hear about every year. He (she? it?) was loitering at the end of my lawn by a ditch the other day. Last year I tried (and I believe hit, once) this silly critter with a .22 pellet at about 50 yards- but it keeps coming back for more.
So, instead of dinking around with my mediocre shooting skills at medium ranges, I went out and bought a Remington Model 870 Super Magnum 12ga pump action to simplify the task this year. If I can't hit it with a spray of #2 shot at 30 yards, I better give up shooting altogether.
I hate to admit it, I feel almost dirty now- but better to come clean than live with the quiet shame of it... |

Eh! I'd go Bill Murray ala Caddy Shack, and use C-4. |

That would pretty much defeat the point of using a SHOTgun, now wouldn't it? If I wanted this to be a 'line up the shot slowly and plink it off' sort of affair, a shotgun would be the last thing to purchase. |

I'd use a .50bmg to be honest.
Eric, you should have a look at the box of truth. http://www.theboxotruth.com/
I wouldn't use anything smaller than 00 buck. It just lacks the penetration and retained energy. Groundhogs are tough critters, don't underestimate them. |

Need to use something that won't spoil the meat! Whistle pigs is good eatin'! You wouldn't kill something you won't eat right? |

| A 10ga slug would do any squirrel nicely. |

| It was bad. I was actually deer hunting. Sitting in a tree stand and got tired after a few hours. So the little tree rat that had been taunting me for the last half hour got to be my "trophy buck" that day. |
