Here it is, I figured I'd take a picture before it gets scratched up in the thick woods around here and while I still have the box laying around. Hopefully, I'll be able to tag a squirrel or two for the pot tomorrow with it.
Haven't found a pellet that shoots worth a darn out of the .22 barrel yet, but the .177 barrel is working out just fine with the Gamo Rocket pellets. |

Surprizingly good actually. On the box it's listed as a "European hardwood", but I have no clue as to what actual wood that could be. It looks beautiful for the most part. It's very thin towards the front though, it could use a little more "beef" up there. I already put a little dent in it from the allen wrench when I was changing the barrel out. Also, in the area around where the barrel breaks at, the wood isn't smooth, they left it rough cut. Not a huge deal as that area isn't really exposed, and it only stands out because the rest of the stock seems so nice.
I do wish they didn't put that gold "Beeman" decal on it, and it's inlaid too so it would look strange if you took it off. Doesn't match the silver trigger at all.
The length of pull is pretty close to that of my centerfire rifles, but longer than you would expect for an air rifle. They put a very good quality rubber recoil pad on it too, but I've found gets in my way. The way it's pointed on the ends is supposed to give you a more positive seat on your shoulder when firing, but it catches on my hunting vest. A simple plate would have been fine. This probably won't be an issue in warmer weather when I'm not wearing a heavy coat.
The stock was one of the major things that attracted me to this set up. |

Well, let us no how it's doing in the field. I'm not really sure if this rifle is sold in Europe either. |

Can-do!
I went hunting for about two hours this morning. No game birds are in season here (at least none that I would want to eat) and the squirrels seemed to be sheltering out of the wind in their holes. The below freezing temperature didn't help matters much either. I'll try it again in a few hours.
Once I warm up a little bit, I'm going to take it out and tinker with it for a while. |

Indeed it is!
I got two squirrels with it this morning! I'll post the picture and story in the hunting section.
I would have gone hunting yesterday afternoon but while I was tinkering with the rifle on the range, my groups opened up and I had to figure out why. It seems the scope mounts had become loose, and I needed to sight it in again after I tightened them down. I also tried out some different pellets. None of the others came close to the accuracy I got from Gamo Rockets. Fortunately, my Daisy 880 likes the other pellets I have so none of them will go to waste. I spent most of the afternoon on the range, but it paid off this morning! |

moose,
when we camped in the L.A. mountains a couple months ago our neighbor had that very one. i didn't shoot it but i shouldered it. it felt balanced and solid. i'm confused with the whole "chinese" beeman thing. are they clones do you know? he said he paid $125 for the package. i've looked at the whole line. they look like they give gamo a good run for the money.
did you get the steroid yet? turns out the 392 tune isn't as loud as i originally thought. more like a bridge between .22 CB and .22target short. (35fpe and 50fpe from my marlin lever, i have a chrono). i threw a couple crow mag power shots across the yard today. nothing to raise an eyebrow but i wouldn't do it for an hour. |

The model 1073 is made in China. Some of Beeman's guns are made in Germany, they are supposed to be higher quality than the Chinese rifles.
I don't think I've ever wanted a rifle to "wow" me as much as I want this one to. With as good as it looks, I really hoped that it would be a real gem. In a way, it is. The .177 barrel shoots very good, better than many fixed barrel rifles. The .22 barrel seems to be a different story.
To start with, I was using the pellets I had on hand, Daisy wadcutters. Even after hand picking the most uniform ones out of the tin, accuracy is marginal at best. After trying several other pellets, the Beeman Crow Mags seem to want to shoot good, but still not up to par. Today I noticed that even with the Crow Mags, my groups were opening up a bit more than normal. So, with dusk upon me, I had to call it a night and try to figure out my problem.
I checked the barrel, and even though it didn't look dirty, I went ahead and cleaned it. The first patch through with goo gone came out looking like it was soaked in graphite. I ran another wet patch through, followed by about 15 dry ones and reinstalled the barrel on the rifle and stored it with the muzzle facing down. I'll see if that helped in the morning.
So far the .22 "feature" has turned into more of a costly handicap than a good choice for hunting. Other people seem to be having similar issues. I'm beginning to think that the gun was engineered to be a .177, with the extra barrel as a gimmicky afterthought.
Even as a .177, this is a very nice hunting gun. Even the scope it came with isn't bad, I think it's made by Bushnell. The whole thing has a very solid design. A bit on the heavy side at 10 pounds, but that's a plus for off hand shots. Over all, I'm very pleased with the Beeman.
As for the Benji, I ordered a standard model 392 instead of the modified one. It should be delivered today. I'll write a review once it gets here and I have a chance to take it out. |

| Just a heads up em I'm in Nashville. When I started looking into air gun hunting I checked the laws. Any bird termed a "game bird" is illegal to hunt with an air gun. I know its stupid but there it is. Crows, pigons etc. okay but not say doves... Squirrels, rabbits, varmints are okay with "Big Brother" but you can't shoot a pheasnt. Go figure. |

Good post Paladin,
I too saw that most birds cannot be hunted with air rifles here in TN. Just to clearify, I contacted the local game warden office.
As the TN law reads;
Rifles and handguns using rim-fire ammunition and air rifles are legal for hunting small game except migratory birds.
Squirrel and rabbit season is still open until the end of Feb. I'm hoping I can get a few more of them for the table with the Beeman before the season is out. |

moose,
i'd like to know the chrono #'s (if you have one) on the stock 392. i get around 16fpe (i think) @ 8 pumps. that would be 725fps or so in the 14 grain range. i can't say enough good things about mine. i am driving my wife up the wall with AG ballistic talk!
i believe the stock model is around 12-13fpe @8pumps.
mind you mine kisses 25 fpe with kodiaks @ 14 pumps. that's 21.1 grains @720fps!! |

The Benji got delivered about 15 minutes ago, after many phone calls to FedEx, at 10:45pm! Poor delivery guy... Anyway, I don't have a chrono, but a guy on another site was getting about 575fps with his stock 392. He was using pretty heavy pellets though. I shot mine a few times already and all I can say for right now is that it puts a hurtin' on a tin can and it looks good. |
