After DerekVinyard's post on anodizing... I believe I do enough anodizing to warrant the purchase...

It's on sale for $149.99 and I have a 20% off coupon. The sale ends today at Harbor... so I called them, put one on hold and am heading down in a few to go get it...

So Derek... It's all your fault and if the woman argues with me... I am going to tell her "you made me do it"... Mr. Green

Man... I have been trying to convince myself I don't need one. Cause the wife just let me out of the doghouse after I bought the mill 3 months ago. Sale ends today? No, I don't need it... Harbour Freight?

I put a dozen aluminum brakes in the bowl with the walnut shells... even tosed in 4 brass ones... Right away I noticed the aluminum ones stay near the top and the brass went right to the bottom. Which is good so they won't scratch each other...

I will give an update when I check on them in the morning...

Noo... Don't tease me... You know harbourfreight won't ship to Canada themselves, they use FexEx. So I'm stock with $100 brokerage or no tumbler... Nice

Is that going to make things shiney?

That is the plan my friend... Mr. Green

Buffing wheels are great, but... I am getting too old for that... Besides... I don't like the compound getting all over me...

So how are they looking? I'd be willing to bet you had your hands in that tumbler every hour, I know I would have.

Well according to the Anodizing Post... It can take up to 72 hours to get a mirror finish...
It's been going for 24 and allmost all machine marks are gone and they have kinda a matte finish...

I had a foot of 7/8" brass bar stock left over so I made a few brass brakes the same size as the Crosman Custom Brakes... I pulled one and with in 20 min on the buffing wheel... Mirror finish...

I am all ready working on the next batch to go in...
The box in the first photo... was 6 hours ago... All laid out for drilling...

I've been told for any real volume you need more than one tumbler and progressive media. I'm hoping to get one myself sooner or later, I just hate polishing.

The batch that went in was pretty clean... The plastic Media is suposed to be the best to start with and then to the walnut shells for the final...

I am going to order a dirty water pump and build the sediment filter set up for it.

The nice thing about this one is it is all ready plumbed for the wet set up.

In the words of Colombo... "Just one more thing"

Next time I go into Harbor... I am going to find out how much a extra bowl is for it. That way I can have a wet and a dry bowl. Or... I will just keep my eyes open for another sale and get the second so I can run two at a time.

I am dying to find out how well it does... If all works a planed... I can start offering shiny parts in the line up with out all the hard work resulting in a more reasonable price... Mr. Green

Your better off tumbling the parts, then having someone bright dip before anodizing. you'll get high gloss with out the hassle of running your tumbler for day on end. We do the handles for some of benchmade's knife handles and thats how we do it for a gloss finish.

Well even with the prep work... I am not getting the results I want with just the walnut shells...

So... Off to Harbor again...

1/4" Plastic Deburing Media Item# 93832 5# bag... $14.99

1.2mm Steel Balls Item# 96354 25# Jug $24.99
2.0mm Steel Balls Item# 96357 25# Jug $19.87

The Steel Balls are being discontenued... at the best price that I found so I am buying a few jugs of each...

You might try looking into the stuff reloaders use to make their brass cases shiny:
http://www.midwayusa.com/browse/BrowseProducts.aspx?pageNum=1&tabId=1&categoryId=19907&categoryString=9315***731***695***8940***

Sodium bicarbonate (Arm & Hammer baking soda) might work, too. It's used in industry as a less aggressive medium than in sandblasting or beadblasting.
