I have recently received some sleeves of .22 cal JSB Pellets in 5.52mm from D&L.... both the 15.9 gr. Exacts (Lot # 3007308) and the 14.3 gr. Express (Lot # 1003008).... I am extremely pleased with the improvement in quality control compared to the sleeve of JSB Express I purchased in 2007.... That batch had 30-50% damaged skirts (although they still shot well).... but the new pellets are virtually perfect....
I did some bench testing indoors this afternoon, both with my Uber-Carbine and my scoped Phantom (Quest 1000 piston).... All were 5-shot groups, JSB Express at 20ft.... The small squares on the targets are 0.1" and the black squares are 0.23"....
Uber-Carbine at 580 fps.... average group 0.26" OD, 0.04" C-T-C:
Phantom at 640 fps.... groups size 0.30:" OD, 0.08" C-T-C:
Who said you couldn't make a Phantom work with a scope?....

Was 2007 a bad year for them, or perhaps the sleeve was just mishandled prior to you receiving it?
Those were 5-shot groups? Did you miss with the other four shots? |

I have no idea why the .22 JSB Express pellets I got in 2007 had so many defects.... but it was consistent through all the tins in the sleeve I bought.... Some pellets had two or three small dents in the skirt, while others had one larger dent.... I suppose the damage could have been caused in handling (someone dropping the sleeve), although none of the tins actually had a dent in it.... I was wondering if maybe the problem getting pellets fom JSB had to do with them getting rid of bad dies and/or handling equipment....
Anyway, the point I was trying to make is that the new pellets I bought were nearly perfect.... actually this extends to some .177 pellets I got as well.... Exacts in 4.50mm, 4.52mm, and Exact Heavies in 4.52mm....
Yeah, it's a pretty cool feeling to see that hole in the paper just getting a bit more ragged with each shot....
