Hey guys,
I like the look of my stock Crosman 140, and I'm shooting 3/4" groups with the iron sights at 11 yards.
But, in the real world of hunting, 11 yards would be just plain luck in finding a live target at that short distance. And...I'm not sure I can hold that tight of a group at 20 or 30 yards from the shoulder.
So.........I'm thinking of mounting a scope to it. I've read a lot about this and it seems like most people say you can't or it's difficult to do so since it isn't dovetailed.
I thought I read somewhere that someone recently contacted Crosman and they still had a few old scope mounts left over from the good ol' days, but they were only made for 3/4" scopes. I wanna bigger scope if I'm gonna scope it.
Any thoughts? |

Wow, ask and you shall receive. Thanks guys.
So, those mounts that clamp around the barrel, the barrel must be strong enough to withstand the pressure of clamping the mount down tight?
Very nice! Thanks again. |

YER guys I second that THANKS,
Been looking for away to mount a bipod
to the air tube of the Career. I have
a bipod with a weaver fitting.
A couple hours in the lathe & mill and I will
have one for the job.
so simple I didn't think of it "getting old" |

The barrel certainly is strong enough- but those clamp-on barrel mounts can only be tightened so much before the aluminum strips out around the screw threads- so don't overdo it. The 140 isn't a spring-powered airgun- so you don't need to worry about the dual-recoil effect jarring the mounts loose and tightening the clamps extremely is not as crucial as it could be on a high-power springer. |
