Hi guys.
I was wondering if it was possible to use nitrogen in a 2240 ?
I know it would have to be bulked first, but was wandering if there are any special issues or mods .
Nitrogen would be great for shooting in the winter. |

Why not just PCP it. Plenty of conversions for that. |

You could use nitrogen- plenty of people in the paintball world use it (as well as propane, which is just plain stupid). But Broom has a good point- if you're going to the expense of bulking it, why not just use HPA- it'll be cheaper in the long run.
Also- "nitrogen" and "nitrous oxide" are two different things- you do NOT want to use NO (nitrous oxide) in an airgun- if oil in the gun were to ignite, NO will increase the burn temperature exponentially, probably melting the pistol and parts of you with it. |

But if you breathe enough of it (Nitrous Oxide, that is) you won't even care that your hand is now a charred stump. |

| I haven't made the jump to pcp but i have wondered about nitrogen. The stuff is completely inert and the pressure won't fluxuate with the temp. We used it to leak check refrigerstion and a/c systems. You'd have to control the pressure in the first place, but not being familiar with equipment I'm not sure it would work. |

I've wondered about it, too. Like Eric said, paintball people use it, and air is 80% nitrogen to begin with. In this area, I can probably find more sources for compressed nitrogen than sources for scba/scuba air. On the other hand, getting a hand pump isn't going to work for pure nitrogen, so you can't do it yourself.
Does anyone know of data comparing FPS or FPE produced at equal pressures for nitrogen vs. HPA? |

| The trick is is the equipment used for air safe with nitrogen? Any welding supply or a/c supply house will have nitrogen if it can be safely charged into the gun. |

| I'm not sure how they handle Nitrogen- when in liquid form it needs to be stored at like -300* or such to stay liquid, so I assume they only sell it in a vapor format- but at what pressure level I don't know. I would assume, however, that they probably will only put it in a tank made/labelled specifically for Nitrogen, not a SCUBA tank or such. |

Nitrogen is a inert gas as such is totaly harmless. you are breathing 79%
right now in every breath you take.
Nitrogen is a thiner gas than Co2 so will travel faster but has no expantion
abillity like Co2. So would be better in a HPA/PCP gun.
Argon is another gas that could be used in a HPA/PCP.
Ps..no one makes scuba tanks!!! they make gas bottles Alloy/steel and put a valve in it that will take a suba diving first stage.
If you wanted to use a a scuba tank for a bulk feed system you could use a scuba 1st stage they have 2 port pressures the port the the gauge connects to is the high pressure port "usely marked HP" and is at tank pressure the other 3 or 4 ports are the low pressure ports used for 2nd stage "mouth bit" / octy /BCD inflater / dry suit inflater they are regulated
to 140 psi. |

I hear what you're saying about it being inert- like Argon- but I don't think anyone will fill a tank setup for a SCUBA application with Argon either.
Anyone around here work for an industrial gas supplier? |

I'm not a pcp shooter, but I used nitrogen a lot in my work for years. I used "B" tanks usually, much smaller than scuba gear, but easier to handle. I may look into it if I ever get into them. I don't get out to hunt much anymore, so a pcp is an outlay I'm, not sure of. i may also go with a bulk fill co2, but in it I'd use co2... . |
