Butler Creek scope covers are very handy but could be made of better materials, I have no problem with the front cover it’s just the rear one that pi$$es me off, I have broken three in as many three months and at $30.00 each it was getting a bit regular, they are easily broken by catching them when reloading, cocking the gun and putting the gun down with out closing the cover.

So here is my solution to this problem and it is very easy, all you need is a piece of 18g steel 8mm wide and 55mm long, fold it to the shape in the photo so that it fits the hinge part snugly then bend it up the back of the cover so that when riveted it holds’ everything in it’s correct place, all you need to hold it together is two rivets through the cover.

Just as an after thought, to get the shape correct get a thin piece of aluminium and bend it around the hinge and cover, and use this template to guide you when bending the steel strip.

Have fun

Al

Interesting. I've never had one fail. The only problem that I had
was, one time when I was shooting from an abandoned bridge, the
cover flew off of the ocular bell of the Patriot, fell about 30 yards into
the Cle Elum river and sailed off down stream at about 25+ mph.

There is! He who shoots from the bridge, nets the most pigeons
(provided he has bungied his flip-ups).
