Having seen all the wonderful work that Joe does with his lathe, as well as the many many wonderfully well written threads on how to make improvements to current commerical air rifles. I was wondering... Could we as a group collaborate on building the ulitmate "Super Gun"?

Now I'm not talking about one of those teenager "duct tape and pvc pipe" wanna be guns. I'm talking about a serious gun here. One where we take the best of all that we've seen, or added bits like "why don't manufatures do this....?" type ideas?

So as everyone interested could add thier imput, we'd need to use some polling features. To decide things like wheither or not it's a pistol or a rifle? Will it be a springer or a pcp? So on and so forth. Combined with a sticky with current comments and perhaps the most current CAD drawing of what we all decide upon.

We'd of course need a bit of moderation. Someone that can based on polling votes declair any such gun is going to be X with such and such features.

Now I just know some nay sayers are going to say..."Why not just go buy one?" Well, why do folks build kit cars? We already have car dealerships. Why do gun collectors build CVA rifles? We can go down to our local gun shop and by a finnished replica and be at the range that day shooting it. The point is...it's fun to tinker and build!

And while there's many many folks that most-likely are of the "I just want to shoot a gun" school of thought. And have absolutly no intentions of ever doing any mods or tuns other then perhaps adding a scope or a bipod. There's alot that can be learned from doing such a project. Even if they just lurk and read the progress those that are interested are making.

For my part in this, this is what I can offer. I am by no means a machinist. I've some experince in welding, but I can't see how that'd really benifit such a project other then welders and machinists use the same diagrams and such. However, my current lead welding project is building a waste motor oil fired foundry for casting aluminium, copper, steel parts. This I hope to have built and ready to fire and begin casting by spring time. (I have a few other ebay type things I'm tossing around for a home based ebay buisness). I've played around with turbo cad once or twice, but again I'm not expert. Doing such a project would force me to learn it! Smile

I guess my biggest asset is my willingness to learn!

LOl..great idea pitty I'm so far away or I would be in boots and all.
As I have more CNC toys than you can poke a stick at..
But if you want a SUPER GUN You will need to look at a
Pnumatic piston system..Ps a gas spring ram as used by some guns is simlar but is only scratching around the edges of what is pos.

An interesting proposition. There are a lot of variables - guns are as personal as toothbrushes. Plus, guns are tools, and therefore tailored to a particular purpose. A 10m target gun serves a different purpose than a Condor.

Ya, we'd have to keep it semi limited to what average folks have in their prespective workshops. EG, you have cnc, I doubt many will. Joe has a metal lathe, I'm interested in one, how many other's would be willing to buy one for a one off project?

That's why I would suggest doing extensive polling first. To determine type, and features a particular project gun would be. Going by popular vote that's what we'd work on.
