Hello all ... I am new to this forum and I guess new to taking air guns seriously.

I have a quick question. I have two teenage daughters who have recently become enamored with shooting my old junk Daisy 840 at cans in the back yard. What they like is being able to shoot stuff 10-15 yards away, practicing with the sights, etc. What they hate is having to manually load every round (we are shooting BBs) and they are not particularly fond of pumping it either.

I had already considered buying a BB pistol for cheap backyard practice anyway so this just adds something to the list.

What I want is something that's usable at 50 yards, dead-on accurate at 15-20 yards, and it would be great if it is an autoloader and doesn't require more than one pump, manageable by a 100 lb teenage girl.

So according to my list of requirements, it looks like a 600+ fps .177 pellet rifle fits the bill for usable range and accuracy, and there seems to be only two autoloaders like this on the market. Crosman Nightstalker (which my kids won't shoot due largely to tacticool looks), and the 1077. Is there another autoloading .177 pellet rifle out there?

Are there any suggestions for an alternative to the 1077? Seems like the best or only game in town for a quasi-semiautomatic pellet plinker, no?

How many rounds can I realistically expect to get out of one CO2 cartridge in a 1077? Some say 25. Others say 50.

I'd say Airmagnum in .177. If you're getting CO2, that's the best you can get, and it will be quite accurate up to 50 yards and capabable of hole in hole up to 20 yards (and maybe further). It's not auto loading, but there is no better CO2 rifle money can buy.

well autoloading is kind of the big deal here. plus $250 is over budget.

For the price and the features you want, the 1077 is probably the best overall bet. It is not the most accurate gun, and your 50 yard requirement is not likely to be met, and for it to be accurate consistently at 15-20m you may have to do some work to it.

If you can eliminate the auto-loading idea, the choices open up a bit.

OK I figured the auto-loading was the sticking point.

Makes me wonder why there are so many auto-loading CO2 pistols out there, but almost no auto-loading rifles.

I'm not sure what you meant by the tactical looks bothering your kids, but the only true auto loaders are the Crossman Nightstalker and the Beretta CX-4, they're both tac. type rifles. Then you have the 1077 you mentioned, a nice little plinker it's a double action.

If you want the extra range and accuracy you might consider the RWS 850, it's a bolt action, you need to cock it or work the bolt eack time, but at least you don't load each shot.

There are several nice co2 pistols, take a look around Pyramyd Air or a couple of other sights and see what they have. I'm not sure what you want to spend or what kind of pistol you want but there are nice ones from Daisy to Walther.

Oh, I'm planning to buy a pistol and a rifle. I think I probably will end up with a Crosman C11 for the pistol.

My budget for a rifle is about $100, pistol about $50. I mostly wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking anything. I understand the 1077 is a revolver and not a true semi-auto but functionally it is the same. You don't have to manually operate any part of the action between shots. That's what I am looking for in a rifle.

I guess that makes the 1077 the best choice. Be warned though, if you want something that lasts, the Airmagnum 850 will always be the best and most reliable! Mr. Green

I can believe that about the 850 ... however for that much money and that powerful of an air rifle, I might as well get a .22LR rifle.

in my 1077 i can get about 24 shots off before i start to notice the power (and point of impact) dropping off. if i were to make the purchase again, i would have gotten the 1077 with the AirSource conversion. even though personally i dont like the way it looks.

I bought a C11 and sent it right back... Inaccurate as hell with fliers every other shot...

I ended up with a 1088 pistol and moding it... Much better and shoots lead...

1077 is a good choice... But like Matt said... 24 shots and then the power starts droping... AS ugly but practical...

From what I have read, if you wait 15-20 seconds between shots, then it extends the life of the CO2 cartridge of a 1077. Is this true?

Another pistol I am considering is the M&P replica like this:

http://www.pyramydair.com/p/Smith-Wesson-M-and-P-co2-gun.shtml

Mostly, in a pistol I would like something that approximates the weight, sights, trigger feel, etc. of my other DAO 9mm pistols (A S&W and a Kahr). I think this may fit the bill.

That'll probably last less longer then the Airmagnum. Mr. Green

Here I can legaly shoot and air rifle in my back yard, not so with the .22, so...

Also it is something you can instruct your kids with at home. But do be aware that airguns are still due the cation due any gun. My dad and granddad taught me to shoot when i was 4 and gun saftey was the big lesson before I got to shoot.

My parents hate guns.

Edit: Actually, my mom does, and my dad always just follows her for such matters, but when I get him to shoot sometimes, he can't whipe that smile of his face.
