A picture, for anyone not familiar with it:

Yes- you can change the main spring to get a few more FPS out of it- I'd check with Jim Maccari on that: www.airguns.citymax.com or look in the 'For Sale' section here for airbuddy3 who sells springs/spring kits and may be able to offer something.

The problem with a spring upgrade on this gun is that it's already shooting at 1200fps with 5gr pellets and 1000fps with 7.9gr pellets- so how much more can be expected with a different spring (maybe up to 15-20% more- why? Because Gamo tends to overstate their gun's ratings by 15%)? Most springs out there are designed to provide around that same level of power (or less, depending on its application). You could try- I'm not saying you should try- to shim your existing spring to the point just before any sort of coil bind is encountered and also lube everything with a lube designed for your shooting conditions/climate (see the Maccari site for a couple of choices on this as well).

As for changing the barrel- either to a different 'look' or a different caliber- it's probably going to be easier to try and use a barrel from another Gamo. The receiver block will likely be of a different design- but if you have any tool/fabrication skills that can be overcome. A different caliber might also be possible- again with some work. Sorry I can't be more specific, I have virtually no experience with Gamo break barrels. Maybe someone else around here can help.

Also- you didn't mention how long you've had this rifle- but it seems that virtually all Gamo break-barrels need to be "broken in" and their accuracy will improve dramatically (400-500 pellets through it)- so if the gun isn't quite what you think it should be- pump 500 pellets through it first and see if it improves.

The Gamo Shadow Typically does 850fps with Gamo hunters , the 1000fps marketing Hype Is with Hobbies 6gr and the 1200fps with Gamo pbs 5gr pellets pushes the hype one step further .
I think the Important question is ...how does the Gun shoot ?
is it accurate ? is the fireing behaviour good ? is it hold sensitive ?

If you NEED more power for your application , I have Kits that will make it shoot at 950fps with the Hunters and go supersonic with the stuff Gamo uses for testing Laughing

Regards ,
Frank
