New air rifle, which pellets?

Hello everyone!

I have been on and off of this board for a while now and searching for a good first air rifle. By asking a lot of questions and deciding what I really want out of an air rifle for now, I have chosen the RWS Model 34, .22 caliber.

I am now in search of the best pellets for this rifle. I was thinking maybe a German made pellet is better than others, but I have no idea.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have done multiple searches, but can't seem to find what I am looking for.

Have you actually bought the rifle yet, or are you just set on buying it at some point?

.22 is always a good choice. Just don't get crow mags. I can't get any accuracy out of those with my .22 cal springer. But are you hunting or plinking or target shooting or what?

I like beeman brand pellets. They've got a variety of pellet types and I think I've yet to find even one deformed pellet in my tins. They use nice light colored lead and it is well machined with few shavings or imperfections.

Most guys here will tell you to get a good dome, regardless of hunting or target shooting. RWS actually makes good pellets too, so you could try them for your pellet selection. Just avoid the hallow point or super velocity novelty pellets. Get the old standard pellets that people have been using for years. There's a reason why after all.

Funny enough: Every gun, even the same model gun made on the same assembly line on the same day- may prefer different pellets from one another.

That being said, start out with something common and cheap to see how your specific gun likes them (i.e. Crosman or Daisy pellets), then move along to the higher priced items- the RWS, H&N and so on (Beeman pellets are H&N product, re-labeled). It will ultimately become a trial-and-error process to determine which pellets your specific gun works best. If you can, get a 'variety pack' of different pellets for the experimenting.

I find that tins of daisy pellets work best to weight down items that you don't want to blow away in the wind. Any other application for them is highly questionable, imho.

I'd of got a.177 for plinking. Cheaper ammo.

Yeah, but less impact fun. I think he did a great buy with the .22. It should be just under 12 Ftp.

I would suggest sticking with a domed (round nose) pellet.
They are inheritly more accurate. Hollow points and pointed
pellets usually exhibit worse accuracy.

The advice to start cheap and try different kinds is good. Every gun is different. Besides, you will shoot up to 1000 rounds before the gun really "breaks in," so you've got time to experiment before you get serious.

I shoot flat pellets indoors at 10 meters. Anything farther than that (or with even a hint of wind) and I use round nosed pellets.

I wish I could shoot that much. But not a lot of open spaces to go shooting here in the city. Not that I'd want to go out and do it even if there were, what with it being 105 degrees all the time.

A Crosman would melt at that temperature.
