Anyone seen this bad boy yet? Looks pretty powerful for a springer, probably right behind the rws 460 magnum.
I like the thumbhole grip myself. You don't see that on many springers. |

Chiclones don't do much for me. Seems the Chinese are the new 'go to' guys for bbguns, but nowhere near the quality of older German and UK stuff . . . |

| Still, are there any high quality American brands? Airforce rifles are pretty good, right? |

Daisy, Crosman and Air Force all build some nice stuff.
Crosman custom shop or Daisy 753, 853, 953, 888 or 880 are really nice.
Accurate and light weight.
The Mac1 Talon that Sherry got is also very nice.
Big box store versions usually need work, but prices are much lower at big box stores.
Quality typically improves during custom assembly. |

If I was there when you wrote that I'd kick your a$$ for putting Air Force in the same category as Daisy. I mean I'd really kick it hard. |

| Say, J, you actually got me a bit interested in those Daisy CO2 rifles. What do they usually cost? |

i refuse to believe German rifles are somehow fundamentally better. They are better finished, but better??? Take a crosman and refinish it yourself and you'll have a great gun for a lot less than 1/2 the cost. I would even say less than 1/4 of the cost in some cases. as for parts, Gravel, D&L, etc... are great guys to deal deal with, and the parts are low, low cost.
i'm a big believer in low cost, and getting the most out. crosman fits that well as does the benjamin. so is hatsan, and i hope we see a lot more hatsan models here.
as for the super streak, looks pretty good to me, great value with scope. i'm buying!
ciao,
johnny |

#1, it depends on which German guns you are comparing. A Diana 24 is maybe double the price of a Crosman break-barrel of the same sort of specifications and does shoot smoother right-out-of-the-box.
#2, if "upgrades" are your fancy- then no, you wouldn't start with a high end product- you'd start low-market and then "improve" it.
I gather you are in Canada based on the parts sources you mention. You should also look over http://www.scopesandammo.com which is cheaper on both guns and Crosman service parts than the two you mentioned. |

Come on Rog don't get mad a Chevy and a Cadilac are both American, so he listed Daisy with Air Force. Daisy makes good guns as does Crosman, their just more of a "blue collar" gun. |

Yeah, it's like comparing chevy and cadilac to a Viper or Stealth.
Both brands are American built, but get under the hood and it's a
whole different ball game. There is a lot less of a planned obsolescence
theme going on and more of a performance and quality one happening
with the latter. |

yes, i'm from Canada, many thanks for the store reference, and yes i really enjoy the hobby, rebuilding, making parts, etc... From the guns i have rebuilt and shot, i have not seen any fundamental difference among the springers. The state of tune determines the quality of the shot as does the shooter, not how much you paid, or how much you got sold on superiority.
I do not have any experience with PCPs so i can't comment on them.
The one thing i really enjoy about crosman is the parts availability and support, and they are pretty approachable and down-to-earth people. I do appreciate that.
ciao,
johnny. |
