After posting in the hunting forum and hearing about some suggestions on better weapons then what I already have. I've kinda settled on eventually upgrading to one of the 22xx series of pistols.
I know those are pistols, (the 2250 is sorta a pistol/rifle), but any external mods I do would make it into a rifle. And while my 1077 was based on the Ruger 10/22. I'd like to fashion my version of a 22xx based off the concept of a Henry Survival rifle.
http://www.henryrepeating.com/h002_survival.cfm
I kind of like the idea of having a small lightweight rifle that I can toss in my pack, so I can have my hands free while walking trails or climbing up steep hills.
Crosman came close IMHO with the 2250XT. If only Crosman had made the stock removable, and some how located the Co2 in the middle of the stock, instead of where as the cheek rest.
I would like some advice though on moding one of the 22xx series. I may not be able to do it right now financially. But you never know. I'm always buying/selling/bardering on Craigslist, who knows what I might come across.
Use would be for hunting/plinking. From all I've read about mods for this series of pistol/rifles. You can really push limits on velocity. But at the cost of eating up alot of Co2. This means either hauling around alot of those 12oz cylinders or installing a bulk unit. What mods would be suggested that would be more middle of the road internal wise??
Thanks,
Jax |

For a 2240:
Buy a removable rifle stock- Crosman part# 1399
To increase power- put on a 14" or 18" barrel (14" is Crosman part # 2289-001, 18" is not available- get a 2260-003 24" barrel, cut it down and re-crown it) and then look at valve/hammer modifications.
You want to put a scope on it- get the Crosman steel breech- part # 2240SBPK.
'Off the shelf' appearance mods? Use an existing front sight assembly (i.e. one from a 2300 or such) or order one from a custom fabricator.
If, however, you want to try and make it look like the Henry gun- you are likely going to have to make your own stock from the ground up, and probably install some 2260 parts to allow it to work (i.e. powerlet tube, Co2 rod/cap).
Another relatively cheap option, while not a 2240- is to order a 2289g "BackPacker" which is a multi-pump gun like the 1377 (.22 caliber and has a removable stock), replace the valve with a proper one from Crosman (#1322C013) and a flat-top piston for pumping (available aftermarket). The 2289 is no longer sold in the U.S., so you have to get one from Canada: http://scopesandammo.com/storefront/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=43 |

Thanks Eric, I'll print that up so I can keep track of the part numbers you suggested.
I would like to note though, I'm not trying to make an AR version of the Henry survival rifle. It's the concept I'm going after. I did look at that backpaker, but I'm somewhat leary about buying something that isn't avialbe locally.
One idea I've been tossing around is how to go about attaching a larger Co2 tank and use that as the stock, such as a Talon type arrangement. |

If you want to go the "survival gun" way, I think you'd better go with a pumper, that is the 2289. Any part is interchangeable with any aothe 22xx gun and when you're stuck in the middle of nowhere, it might get hard finding some CO2 to fill up your tank... |
