You hear about this story yet:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/aug/01/canada
Let's see...so many jokes...
"Some people will do anything to move ahead."
"He must have really wanted that window seat."
"After receiving a frantic 911 call, the police headed to the bus."
"The assailant had a criminal record. He was a convicted hacker."
"They say in these situations the best thing to do is remain seated and don't lose your head."
"The attacker was an aspiring actor returning home from an audition. He was apparently upset that he didn't make the final cut."
"I don't know why he went back to the body after decapitating it, but I'm willing to take a stab at it."
"The bus was Greyhound's newest model, the first ever with a Heads Up Display."
"The SWAT negotiator said it was a dicey situation."
"After murdering the man he headed away from the body."
"The murderer, an aging comedian, was said to be little more than an old hack."
"The victim's family said he really had his head on straight...And then this happened to him."
"The rest of the passengers ran away after the incident occured, but the victim remained seated."
"The bus seats are comfortable except they have like no head room."
"The police suspected the attacker of being homosexual after he tried to give the bus driver head."
"Not surprisingly, Greyhound no longer requires its customers to 'call ahead' for tickets"
"After this incident Greyhound will be bleeding customers. They're going to have to start slashing prices."
"Since the attack on Wednsday, Greyhound will now be cutting back on some of its routes." |

There isn't a thing as a better person then someone else, because one probably has a lot of things of ones own he should be ashamed for.
Allthough Flat Rogers jokes do not appeal to me, it might be interesting to seriously discuss the drives of a person who just goes ahead and decapitates someone, in a crowded area, in this case a bus. Probably crazy, but how did that start? There are a lot of people in this world who can snap at anytime. It's surprising to see how easily you can apply symptomes for certain things to someone.
When I hear about something like that happening, it makes me feel sick and disgusted for being a human being. With the right push, I might be capable of doing the same sick thing, you don't know how it started.
For starters one should always realise that one is capable of almost anything another human being was capable, or is capable of doing too. |

Do you realy think that a Buddhist Monk from Tibet could snap and do that? Some people ARE above the rest when it comes to spiritually being evolved. Some people are better than other people! To deny this is to say there is no reason to try to be better. Those Islamic suicide bombers, yeah, I am better than them, my country is better than thiers and my spiritual beliefes are better also! Just my opinion of course! |

Hard to make a generic call on these things. Guy who did the killing was apparently a fairly calm and quiet worker- and his [now former] boss at work has had a tough time believing he is the guy who's done this.
But then- there is the other gentleman a couple days ago who killed himself in Maryland after making some vague threats while undergoing Psychiatric treatments- Bruce Ivens.
Strangely, when Ivens first killed himself- he was merely a "suspect" in the mailing of Anthrax years ago. But now, a couple days later suddenly the FBI was "about to charge him" in the Anthrx situation. Seems to me he makes a great scapegoat, now that he's dead. Very convenient seeing as how the FBI had gotten absolutely NOWHERE in 7 years of investigating- but had spent a good amount of effort in the last year searching Iven's house, office and other effects- calling him a suspect to anyone who would listen. If the FBI were doing that to anyone who may not have actually been the perpetrator of the crime- seems to me there is some real potential to "snap".
Not trying to distract from the specific subject- and the bus killer has no excuses for taking someone else's life- but I personally do believe there are all sorts of reasons an average joe could snap- given the right conditions. |

Yes. Rogue monks have been recorded in many documents, from present, then going back millenia.
People probably lose it because they're hard wired that way. |

I heard a bunch of stuff on some forums where people were discussing the bus killing. Allegedly the victim was a fan of a band called Insane Clown Possey (ICP). They are white guys dressed as psychotic rapping clowns. You either love them or hate them. Personally, I used to like them when I was younger, but older folks hate them with a passion. It's basically loud, vulgar, circus rap.
Anyway, one of their songs talks about how he wants to have his head chopped off. And the report does indicate that the victim was listening to headphones right before the attack.
I hypostulated that the murderer overheard the loud rap music, perhaps even that same song about the decapitation, and maybe he was just irritated by it after however many hours next to the guy and then snapped.
My theory for that motive would almost make sense except it doesn't explain why the attacker had the hunting knife with him on the bus in the first place. Clearly he had violent tendencies and maybe he just kept the knife with him when traveling. Who knows. |

I leave you guys alone for a few days while I go to work, and you come up with this. This is going on your permanent record.
I don't have problems with humor in a case like this. Everyone processes information differently, trying to incorporate new information with what they already know. If that new information is so foreign to human experience (or even imagining), then humor can help with the assimilation.
I lived in Guatemala from 1980 to 1983, in the midst of a civil war (100,000 missing or dead). That was also very shortly after a major earthquake (1976), with 24,000 dead. Believe me, they had lots of jokes. No, I can't condemn a little humor in a case like this. |
