Well my Walther Lever Action arrived on Friday from http://www.airshooter.co.uk/index.html , first time I have dealt with them but I will certainly use them again.

Out of the box, checked it over to make sure everything was where it should be, loaded it up two capsules and Hobby pellets and it worked perfectly no jamming or misfire ect, average fps was 570fps although it was claimed that it would do 640fps. So after all the gas was gone had a good look round the gun to see what I liked and what I did not, first thing I did not like was the plastic sights front and rear, these would have to go also the barrel screws into the receiver a barrel shroud fits over the top and a retaining cap screws on the muzzle end of the barrel to hold the whole lot together, the retaining cap looked like plastic but upon taking it off it was an aluminium cap coated with plastic, at the same time as removing this I noticed that the inner barrel was loose so I tightened it up in to the receiver and replaced the end cap, loaded it up with gas and pellets to give it another try, this time it was putting out 720fps max and 650fps average over 60 shots, evidently there was to much gap between the magazine and the barrel and tightning it up reduced the gap between the two and stopped gas from escaping therefore increasing the pressure, Very pleased with it.

Spent the weekend making a new rear sight and front sight out of steel this went well except for the front site cover which was spring steel it took 6 hours but I think the end results are worth it, finished it off by polishing the stock with metal polish to bring it up to a high gloss.

Gave it a good trial on Monday using just iron sights and it is very accurate up to 20m I got 5 shot groups in a 40mm circle standing, the same in a 15mm circle using a bench rest, so very happy with it and for what I want ( a garden plinker ) it fills the bill perfectly and it’s fun being John Wayne.

Nice job. I'm surprised that the gun rated at 640fps maximum went to 720fps once you tightened up the barrel! Wow- would be nice if all airguns could be improved that easily. Mr. Green

Also- why did you use spring steel to make the front sight? Is there some characteristic to it that allowed you to shape it easier, or a reason more oriented to its final purpose? Strikes me that doing anything with spring steel would be a bit more work than anything else?

Well, the only way for me to top that is to buy a .22 LR version next year when I am liscensed to buy a firearm. Mr. Green

I used spring steel for the front sight shroud so that it would clip into place on the base, you just have to keep tempering it while you work it, but the finished job looks good.

It's a shame that those are illegal here. It really is.

On another note there. Mr. Wayne- how do you like the Lever Action? Also- is it a single-pellet magazine, or one of those "push through" holders that hold 5 or 6 pellets?

The lever action works like silk smooth as anything. The Magazine is a standard Umarex Mag the same as used in a CP88 or bretta 92FS ect, and to load it you press the loading slot cover where on the real Winchester you would put the bullets, and the mag loader drops out the side of the receiver. Pretty good design and well made.

Nice. I hate those "push through" in-line loaders. Rotary magazines rule!

Push trough would've been more realistic though.

Like in a real winchester.

I think a push through loader that could hold about 20 pellets would be nice if they worked all right, but the technology dosen't seem to work as well as a rotary magazine. The trouble is that nobody seem's to be developing new ways of delivering pellets to the breach at the moment.

I've already seen some custom idea's for magazine.

Maybe someone'll come up with something nice.

What was the normal capacity of a winchester anyway?

Edit: They could make a rotary magazine on the inside where you don't see it, so that you would have to feed the pellets where you feed em in the original way. For maintenance you'd be able to extract the mag from the gun. Something like that.

I think they could take between 7 and 10 cartridge's depending on whether it was a carbine or rifle also the type of cartridge they were using also made a diffrence.

But I think the idea of a fixed rotary magazine loaded from the side is quite a good idea, then with a fixed magazine it would be a better fit and less loss of gas when firing, work on it Broommaster you might make yourself a fortune.

I have now replaced most of the plastic on the gun, the latest is the barrel bands. Looks a lot better than plastic. also I have added an extra piece to the forestock to match the orignal.

Do you have an entire metalworking shop hiding in your garage? (!)

If you can make pieces like that fairly quickly- there may be some demand for them- although I don't know how popular that Winchester is/isn't.

Nice work. Pretty soon there won't be much left of the original gun!
