Okay I finally found the time to chrony my Career Infinity in .25 caliber today due to the nice weather and such I could not pass up the chance.
I was somewhat perplexed at the two 10 shot test where one was on low setting and the second test on high setting.
The following conditions existed:
Weather- Sunny
Temperature- 65.8 degrees
Time- 12:45 pm and 1:05 pm respectively on the test firings
Shooting direction- South
Wind Direction- North at 10 mph
Pellet- Beeman Silver Bear 26.42 grain
Gun- Career Infinity .25 caliber 3000 psi charge
Test 1 (low power wheel setting)
High Velocity- 980.2 fps
Low Velocity- 922.0 fps
Avg. Velocity- 952.4 fps
Extreme Spread- 58.23 fps
Avg. Deviation- 15.71
Std. Deviation- 20.09
Energy in foot/lbs.- 53.22
At the end of the 10 shot chrony test the gun still had 1500 psi from initial 3000 psi
***************************************************************************************************
Test 2 (high power wheel setting)
High Velocity- 995.3 fps
Low Velocity- 898.6 fps
Avg. Velocity- 943.4 fps
Extreme Spread- 96.73 fps
Avg. Deviation- 27.72
Std. Deviation- 32.57
Energy in foot/lbs.- 52.22
At the end of the 10 shot chrony test the gun still had 1250 psi from initial 3000 psi
***************************************************************************************************
My conclusion on this test is the obvious, you save air and the gun is a little quieter on the low setting. You also get 1 more foot/lb. of energy. More shots as well.
I would have bet that the high setting would have given a higher fps count for more shots but after the 3rd shot they were even almost at 970.6 fps on low setting and 970.3 fps on high setting.
I was amazed by this finding. Your only benefit on high power setting is the first shot. In fact if it is one shot for the one kill the high power setting gives you 58.12 foot/lbs. of energy as compared to 56.37 foot/lbs. on the low setting. And these numbers aren't even that drastic in my opinion.
Oh well, thought I would share this with any Career Infinity .25 caliber owner's that frequent the boards here.
Still a formidable rifle and very accurate. |

| Punching quarter inch holes and delivering 50 fte is not too shabby, is it? |

Heavier pellets will yield different energy results in PCP like the Career and Sumatra designs. What adjusting the power wheel does, is it allows the valve stem to move further. More pellet mass is needed to get the air pressure moving the pellet, instead of blasting unused air out of the end of the muzzle after the lightweight pellet is already downrange.
The .25 Sumatra set to high power does about 105fpe with 42grain EJ, but won't group kodiaks at the same power level setting. At 1140fps, not even a kodiak shape crossing through the transonic barrier is stable.
You may also have noted that the heavier pellet is able to utilize a greater portion of the air pressure energy also, due to the mass taking more barrel time to get up to speed. |

| It took me a while to realize that it is not about how hard or fast air is being pushed through the barrel, but how much pressure builds up behind the pellet. |

That should get better fpe for the first shot or two but I have a suspicion that the trend or similar results will follow.
But overall...........I love the gun! It should be a real crow killer if one of those BASTADS ever get in my kill range! |

| Good luck. Crows are smart and have good eye sight. And they really like not being shot. |
