I've been looking to get into something new. Kinda tired of springers and I've always liked the look of those Air Force rifles. From what I've read about it, it's lighter, quieter, and basically superior to springers in every respect, despite the annoyance of filling the air cylinder. What I also liked is that you can leave the cylinder pressurized.
I wanted to get a .20 cal as well since I hear that is the best of both worlds of the .177 and .22 cals, which I have a number of already. I found a good deal on it for just under $500, so I'm thinking about ordering it.
Does anyone have any comments or suggestions about this? |

How're you planning on putting 2500psi air inside of the tank? |

I would highly recommend it. But I would go for a .22 caliber.
With a Talon it's too easy to push a pellet too fast and go
super sonic and loose all your accuracy.
A Talon will push a .22 caliber pellet as fast as most other
guns propel a .177. If you want a hunting rig, IMO there is
no better. The life time warranty is a plus also.
I would even wager to guess that your kill ratio will go up with an
Airforce gun. After shooting springers for 20 years, I bought
my first PCP and was, and still am, amazed at the accuracy.
I bet you get a huge grin on your face after the first time that
you pull the trigger.
Another thing is that there is a hammer spring preload
adjuster (power wheel) that allows the gun to be adjusted
way down for hundreds of low power shots for plinking on
a single fill.
If you hit a bird in the shoulder with a Talon, he is not going
to walk or fly away.
If you do get a Talon and want more power, it can easily be
converted to a Condor and back in about 10-15 minutes with
two hex keys (allen wrenches). You can also easily change
calibers .177- .457 (455 fpe, but only two shots).
Good luck and have fun with whatever you decide on.

| Yeah, I might go with the .22 CW, because I can always buy the other caliber barrels to swap out later on down the road. I really want the talon ss, but I already have a lot of airguns as is, and this one would cost $800+ to get the full setup. That's a hefty chunk of change for me to shell out on something that I don't really need. Maybe I'll just make that my "dream gun" and buy it later on down the road after I've fantasized about it for a while. |

| I thought about trying to sell them, but all of my springer rifles were only $150 a piece, so the resale on them is not that much. They are still good in their own right, but it would be nice to have a high end, top-notch rig that I could really get into using. |

Well, I guess part of the fun of collecting, is the anticipation. |

Of course. It's just like the same feeling kids get on christmas or women get about shopping. You see something you want, you anticipate getting it, you feel euphoric when you first get it, then it wears off.
However, a bad a$$ air rifle is the gift that keeps on giving. I don't think I'd ever get tired of picking up that Talon and blasting sh!t into oblivion. |

I usually tend to the riflemen's term "target shooting and plinking".
Anyway, I've found that most guns I own are fun in their own way, and it seems that I only get my hands on pretty cheap guns (allthough the Crosman is a different story). |

Hey, is it true that the .22 cal Talon ss only chronies at mid 800 fps? If that's true I'd rather get one of those new model RWS's. The 54 has no recoil either and does 900 fps in .22 cal. I would save a couple hundred bucks on it as well. The only drawback is that it is a beast of gun at 10 lbs and with a hefty cocking effort.
If I buy a high end airgun then I want max power out of it, especially considering I use it for hunting primarily. Different sites and manufacturers always post different fps measurements. And I know that real life chrony readings are always lower than what is advertised. So I'm just looking for the low down on this gun. |

Maybe you need a Condor if blasting to feces in to
oblivion is what you seek. they definately fit the bill for that.
They reek havok on what ever they are let loose upon.
Even on the lowest power setting, with the lightest pellet,
they are producing 19 fpe. That's right on par with a lot of magnum
springers and with no hold sensitivity and very little recoil.
Airforce lists the true, actual fps on their site. My .22 Caliber Condor
shoots 14.7 grain RWS Superdomes at 1252 fps and 28.8 grain Eun
Jins at 1038 fps.

I would do a condor but the sound factor is a consideration. I was disappointed that the .22 talon ss only produces a max velocity of 850 fps. Thats barely better than the springer I have now can do. I don't think I want to spend $900 on an outfit that only gives me 30 fps more power, even if it is a superior rifle in all other facets.
I may just spend 4-5 hundred on an rws which will give me between 900-1000 fps in .22 cal. I know I'll have to sacrifice weight and recoil, but I don't think I'm ready to commit to a PCP just yet. |

I don't think the numbers are that important.
If you really want to have an experience, you should try and visit shoots. |

If you do buy an RWS, don't expect the velocity to
be any where close to published velocities. Not to mention
the hold sensitivity you are going to run in to with
almost any high powered springer.
