I just bought a stoeger x20 an gotten into air rifles, I haven't owned one since I was a kid and im starting to really like it again.
the stoeger has an advetised FPS of 1200 with steel alloy pellets but ive been told that heavier pellets while slower are more accurate, is this true?.
if so, what would be considered a heavy pellet?.
Im using stoeger X-Magnums 17.13gr right now |

I would imagine that that pellet is heavy enough in that gun. Have you chronied it?
Also it is usually best to try many many pellets to see what the gun likes best. Each gun will be a bit different, and I mean each individual gun (even the same exact modle). |

I wouldn't go any heavier than 20 or 22 grains. My 22 likes 18 grains |

Experiment, experiment, experiment...many say to shoot the heaviest pellet that your gun will shoot accurately. I suggest JSB Exact domes. My springer likes the 14.35gr, 15.89gr, and the 18.13. My pcp likes 15.89gr up to 23.39 jumbo monsters (though the 23.39s don't fit in the rotary mag). Haven't tried the monsters in the springer, but will report back after I do. Remember to re-zero for each new pellet, or just look at how they group with the same point of aim. If they don't group tightly, no amount of scope adjustment will fix that.
JSB 15.89gr, 15 shots from Benjamin Marauder @ 27 yards
RWS 14.5 Superdome, 5 shots from Benjamin Marauder @ 27 yards |

Yea. Those little "alloy" pellets that make the sonic "crack" are, to put it bluntly, crap and should be avoided for most, accurate airgunning. Get yourself a good Pellet Sampler of a variety of pellets and give them a good go and see how your Stoeger shoots!
Good Shooting! |
