Thanks for the info and inspiration...I just ordered a QB78 Deluxe in .22 caliber, and the Gold Service from Archer Airguns.
Now can you airgun braniacs can help me make it just a bit more powerful? |

Congrats Radar, you can get the XP tune kit from Archer. It adds 100 fps according to him. I had him do it to my QB79. You will be pleasantly surprised when you get this rifle.

My Crosman is stock and hits hard. I'll watch to see what you do. |

I just looked up the QB 79 and it still shows. That's the one that takes the large co2 bottle stock. I was never interested in it but thought I'd mention it if you weren't aware of it.

Sure...Blame poor ol Sean.... why not eh.
Are you going to run it on HPA or C02?
First thing you'll want is this gadget.
http://www.archerairguns.com/Bulk-Fill-Cap-p/ibbfc2.htm
It allows you to run bulk C02 or HPA depending on your mood.
It also gives you a dual purpose rifle.
Running on C02 with no preload is a nice basement target rifle.
Same gun on HPA is a nice Hunter...Bob's up to 40+ fpe |

Cool.
Well I didn't know I could run on HPA, so I was planning on CO2--so maybe both. I reckon I'll take the time waiting for delivery to do some more research on this one. A true 600 fps MV in .22 would be fine with me. I'll see what their "Gold Service" chronograph print out tells me. If it's like 500 fps, I'm going to look for a little power boost. I would like to be able to do a little starling and squirrel control. But mostly paper since I already have the Disco set up and sighted-in for hunting at more than 25 fpe. But how nice to have a target practice gun that I can drop a couple Powerlets into and just go shoot a whole bunch with no pumping. |

I did see that, thanks, but what sold me was the 12 gram Powerlets, actually. Easy, pocket-sized, and disposable. I don't even know where to get CO2 bulk fill around here. |

I believe it will take the paint ball sized bottles (my Beretta CX4 and my Hammerli 850[.22] uses them). But, I prefered the 12 gram powerlets to. Handy. I do have an adapter that allows me to load 2 powerlets at once. |

Funny thing that's exactly what went through my mind.
Here is food for thought.
I think you'll find the velocity will be 500-525 fps right out of the box. And there is something to be said for leaving it there. It's more than enough power to shoot starlings and squirrels. (95% of all Canadian airgun owners are restricted to 500fps and they do loads of hunting at this power. ) Beyond that 480 to 540 is the ideal speed for paper accuracy
That will give you a very good shot count on a pair of caplets and a more controlled rate of expansion cooling. 600fps on C02 takes a lot more gas.
Then if you want more bang simply charge it up on air....I had to dial mine down a lot and restrict the port to stay under 600 fps when running HPA |

Oh ya I almost forgot.
There is a decent little increase in speed to be had by just changing the transfer port seal.. |

OK I already gots a few question for you guys then.
oddtodd, (I love that cartoon by the way) do paintball tanks come full of CO2 and then are refilled or thrown away? Are they just like big powerlets--because I never have seen one, but PA sells these big 88g CO2 disposable cylinders.
Sean I might leave it alone then. I'm used to flatter shooting, but then I rarely shoot beyond 25-30 yards except for paper.
I saw that Archer seal kit video this afternoon from Mr. Archer...other than that, would I just preload the hammer spring like an PCP gun? Or could I do that instead of the seal kit maybe?
This will be the first CO2 gun I ever, ever had, even when I was a kid pelly-whacking the local chipmunk population. |

Radar paintball co2 tanks come empty, they are refillable. I have a 9oz and a 4oz tank for mine. You get about 600 shots with the 9oz tank.

Thank Big Ern. I suppose I could get one at a paintball shop and they'd fill it there? I'll prolly stick to the little powerlets though. |

Any paintball store can fill your tank. I pay $3.00 to fill the 9oz tank. I used to fill my tanks when I used to paintball at an Army surplus store too. Can't wait to hear how you like your new QB. I was really surprised how nice it was when I got mine.
