I have a Squirrel call that I have actually gotten pretty good with. However, I don't know WHEN to actually use the calls. I have searched the Internet, but I have not found the answer to my Question....When do I use the Bark, and when do I use the Squeak? |

I only use the squeal if I haven't seen anything for a while, the distress call will leave them a little spooked. The bark I'll use once every fifteen minutes or so, but usually less. I've gotten damn good at barking back and forth to them for 5 minutes at a time but most of those times they started barking first. Just remember not to over do it, they catch on quick |

(I just sit there and eat peanuts in the shell. That seems to work, too.) |

Haha! Watch out you don't get seen and accused of baiting! |

Good point, but I do eat all the peanuts. The shell cracking seems to get them curious though...and the scent I suppose. But I am, after all, just having a snack.
The calls, properly used, probably work better, but the peanuts is what I was taught by an old timer way back before I was an old timer.
Peanuts and squirrels are delicious! |

In NY state where Jr is located and I also, it is legal to bait squirrels.
Per the DEC
Baiting
It is illegal to hunt with the aid of bait, or over any baited area when hunting big game, upland game birds, turkey or waterfowl.
http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28182.html
Due to the exclusion, it makes it legal per the law here. I was told by a local guy I could post a bird feeder out there, but of course the ethics of such a move would be questionable. May I drop some seeds and peanuts in a predetermined spot should I have a rough go a things some morning? Perhaps.
As for the squirrel call, I have a primos squirrel buster and I was out in the backyard with it yesterday and I saw about 10 go rifling up the trees in neighbors lawns and start barking back holding their ground. It showed me that they will get aggravated by it, and show themselves. That is half the battle with those guys in the woods. |

Forgot to add, in NY state dont get caught with a critter mix out there that has any corn in it during deer season.
Ill be hitting some spots up in Albany, Saratoga and out by Amsterdam in the next few weeks. Ill let you know Jr how the squirrels respond to it that reside in the woods instead of the suburbs. |

New guy here!
Just registered after lurking a bit.
Didn't want to let this thread get by without dropping my own .02$.
Your actually carrying around a pretty good squirrel call with you and it doesn't cost a dime.
Make a fist with your left hand.
Put your pursed lips at that soft spot between thumb and forefinger.
Wet kiss hard. -
Should be making a high pitched squeeking sound. It may take a bit of practice getting it loud enough, but I assure you that it'll bring those curious little buggers out.
Used this to get some squirrels out of my attic, hit 'em with cb's.
Cheers!
PS : Do not let your significant other see you doing this! |

bring two plum sized rocks . sit down and try smacking them together 8 or 10 times every 3 minutes or so. you'll pull them in like the pied piper of squirrelville.
they are so very curious. |

seeing as you can bait them, try some peanutbutter. just smear it on a tree branch or stump. it's like super glue to squirrels. they absolutely will not leave until it's gone. use it like you would any other bait. start putting it out 2 or 3 days in advance, same time, same place, to get them used to it. when opening day comes, you'll have every squirrel in the county waiting for you to show up with their daily fix. been doing it that way for years and it hasn't failed me yet. |

To be honest, I didn't even know you could call squirrels in. I use my squirrel call to great affect on coyotes in the afternoon, however. |
