Interesting thread.

It is definitely best to stay way subsonic. It is not only the shock of nearing sonic speeds that effect pellets, there are a few other variables.

And if you are hunting you want the heaviest pellet that your gun will accurately shoot. This is because the heavier the pellet the higher the ME, and the more energy it will carry down range. The super lite weight pellets, like the Super Sonics, are worthless for anything other than close range target shooting.


With most Air Guns I have tested you are best under 850FPS, with great accuracy at distance only under 800FPS. So find a pellet heavy enough to get you down in that range, it will also carry much more energy to the target. I mostly shoot .177 cal 9.63 grain pellets between 640FPS and 750FPS, and 21 grain .22 cal pellets between 430FPS and 600FPS.
