In the new American Rifleman magazine, editor Mark Keefe writes:
(about gun shows): "On gun collector display tables, I've seen arms that range from what is likely the gun that was in the hands of Meriwether Lews as he and William Clark set out with the Corps of Discovery: a Girandoni air rifle that had been in Dr. Bob Beeman's collection for decades." (Keefe, Mark A. IV, 2009, "Correspondence/Editor's Letter," American Rifleman magazine, October, 2009, V. 157, No. 10, p. 8.)

I thought that Dr. Beeman donated the gun to the Army Heritage Center Foundation back in 2006:

Does this mean the gun has entered the market again, or is it literary license?

Not enough info to judge properly, but I will go with #3: Ill-informed reporter making sh!t up

I'd like a Girandoni and then show up with it on re-enactment days. Mr. Green

I can see it now: Anton VanPelletzanden standing next to Lewis, Clark, and the Corps of Discovery - smearing himself with bear grease to keep the mosquitoes away.

Exactly. And look at all the women I brought from the New World! They're exotic! Cool
