This forum has been created to address any/all questions related to BB Guns. As .177 (4.5mm) BB guns are a form of airgun, they loosely fit the context of AirGunHome.com, but are not airguns-proper due to their more toy-like nature.

Also note: AirSoft or SoftAir guns have no place at AirGunHome.com at this point in time. While they technically use a form of compressed gas or air to shoot, 6mm plastic BBs used for non-hunting or serious target-shooting applications have their own world and forums dedicated to such activity.

Ha, maybe it should be called the pellet-gun forum then??? Air-Gun certainly implies all three. Neutral

my brief foray with an airsoft pistol convinced me that its among the ranks of water pistols and dart guns and is pretty much a waste of time. Laughing

The problems we have with BB guns is that

a) most aren't very "adjustable", they are a sort of as-is type of proposition (there are some exceptions)- thus modification is not really a relevant factor

b) by their very nature with smoothbore barrels and such they are inferior to proper pellet-shooters in respect to hitting targets

c) anyone who goes hunting with round steel .177 BBs from a gun maybe putting out 5fpe needs a swift kick in the butt

But- BB guns are often an "intro" to the world of airgunning. Most of us probably own at least one BB-only gun- whether it be a Crosman 2100 or a Walther PPK/S- but they still really are an "entry-level" product most often bought by the younger shooter. We don't want to discourage potential airgunners, but at the same time we don't want to be answering questions like "how can I get 1000fps out of my Daisy Model 15 pistol" as the question is a dead-end.

So- an area specific to BB guns seemed to be the best solution.

As for airsoft- that really is a completely different scenario. It is intended as a fun, shoot-your-buddy sort of activity which should not be confused with airguns, lest someone think that a .22 cal lead pellet shot out of an Airforce Condor is equivalent to shooting a 6mm plastic BB out of a Crosman Pulse R75. People end up dead that way.

So: BB guns, OK in this area. Paintball and Airsoft/SoftAir- find the right forum- but it's not AirGunHome.com

Eric,
Did I sense some sort of a challenge to make a 1000 fps bb gun? Can I make it full auto? Twisted Evil he he he....

I think this is a good idea, and I agree with Eric's reasoning completely. I also agree that airsoft (and paintball) are too far afield from our focus to be considered on this forum. Not to put them (or their adherents) down, but there are other venues for that sort of thing.

Another good reason for this topic is that there are serious airgunners out there that collect BB guns (perhaps not to shoot). There is a guy down the street from me that has several Daisy Model 25's, and there are many more like him.

And yes, there are diabolo flingers that own BB guns:

I dunno, they are ALL toys to me. Some may be more serious than others and some may be "adult toys"(roger and sniper....no comments please) Laughing , but toys just the same.

I agree about keeping the BB's guns on here because of the idea of them being a stepping stone for kids to get into pellet rifles and pistols.

Personally I have never really liked BB guns, even as a kid. Having tried out Airsoft for the first time the other day, I realize that its even worse. no accuracy, no power, not sure why they exsist at all when theres paintball for wargames???
BUT, a lot of parents ARE going to start their youn'uns off these days with airsoft because they are preceived to be safer, if they like it they will progress to pellet rifles. That may leave these kids out of the loop.

Not that I personally care about which forums are allowed on here Laughing

If you think this thing is a toy that can't be used for hunting, pop on over to the hunting forum and check out what it does to birds.

It ain't your daddy's red ryder, that's for sure.

+1.

I think BB guns need a place, too. I love my Daisy 95B just to play with as an adult sort of...well I don't want to call it a toy, because they are all dangerous if mis-used, but let's say a relaxing thing. It has also been good (for me, at least) for stinging raccoons in the butt without hurting them. Just to get them to move along. (I personally do not hunt raccoons with less than a crossbow or firearm...but I know that some airguns will do the job.)

But with its ~250 fps, I put on safety glasses and just shoot easy and cheaply at a soda can I have hanging from a tree with a good backstop.
Very relaxing.
