Video/sound editing has never been my field of expertise. I want to post up a video- but I need to edit it. I would like to "zoom" in on the item being captured/filmed, eliminate some random sounds, and then join this to another video file.
The files are in .AVI format- and so far I've tried 4 different video editors that were either "freeware" or had a trial period in which it could be used for free. All of them had problems- one of the didn't have the correct codec to open the video files, and wouldn't tell me what codec it wanted, two others would randomly, and without any input on my part, shift the audio against the video- for example, starting the audio 10 seconds after the video had started to they were not coordinated (this was the editor, the original AVI file operated correctly in the Windows Media Player).
Does anyone know of any good software that will let me do these things easily? The list again is a) zoom in image, b) remove parts of the audio, but not video and c) join two (or more) different AVI files together for a straight play-through.
As this is likely only going to be used once or twice in the near future- something free or usable for a period of time as a "trial" would be best.
Thanks in advance for any help on this! |

Hi AirGunEric
Have you tried using "Windows Movie Maker"?
It should be preinstalled on your system if you have Microsoft office 2k+ (I think).
If so it should be located in Start\Programs\Windows Movie Maker(Obviously).
If not: You should be able to DL it or at least get a free trial from Microsoft Corp.
It's the same software I used to make the "Exploding Targets" Vid.
It seems pretty simple to use, After all the vid I made was the first vid that I had ever edited, And it wasent too bad, Was it?, So it's got to be simple.
As for the features on your list, It definitely has the Zoom function, Mute section function as well as being able to join two (or more) different AVI files together for a straight play-through.
Basically all that you have asked for and much more!!
Hint:
If you don't know how to get a feature to work on your vid, Use the "Help" function located on the main bar, It's particularly useful for video editing questions!!

Thanks for the tip Stevie. Can you check which version of Office you have on your machine? Windows Movie Maker isn't part of the Office2000 I have running- so perhaps it is in a newer version (Office2003 maybe)?
I will see if Microsoft is nice enough to allow people to download it. |
